Up to 75% of women and 21% of men over 65 experience pelvic health issues like urinary incontinence or challenges with bladder control. While pelvic health disorders are common, most seniors aren’t comfortable discussing these symptoms with their providers. And this greatly impacts their quality of life and overall outcomes: pelvic health issues are linked to depression, decreased independence, and costly healthcare episodes like falls. Introducing Bold’s evidence-based pelvic health program: With personalized education content and clinical exercise classes designed by Doctors of Physical Therapy, members can improve bladder control, manage incontinence, and reduce pelvic pain from the comfort of their own home – lowering costs and improving hard-to-move quality measures for plan partners. Learn more about the latest expansion to our clinical exercise platform and why it matters. https://lnkd.in/e5HQYreA

Not all exercise programs are created equal. Especially for older adults. Traditional fitness benefits for Medicare that simply ‘check-the-box’ are missing the mark on engagement. Leading exercise programs turn barriers to movement into reasons to engage, helping to lower costs while delighting members. Explore Bold’s guide to evaluating exercise programs for Medicare to help health plans meet the moment.

Could a fall help us identify #Alzheimer’s sooner? That’s one of the important questions raised by a paper just published in JAMA Network Open from a team of researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. They used a retrospective cohort analysis of more than 2 million older adults to show that injurious falls led to a 21% increase risk of future dementia diagnosis — suggesting that falls could actually be a sentinel event signaling future dementia risk. At Bold, we often talk about how a fall can mark the point where lifespan and healthspan diverge. This paper only adds to our urgency to make truly patient-centered fall prevention more accessible and engaging for older adults everywhere. https://lnkd.in/gJkfVRwp

Less than 15% of older adults meet recommended physical activity guidelines. Why? It comes down to the disconnect between what’s available and what’s appropriate. True evidence-based exercise programs - designed for our oldest and most vulnerable populations - fill those gaps to drive engagement and outcomes, improve independence and longevity, and lower costs of care. Dive deeper on our blog to learn what Medicare leaders need to know about the potential of exercise as preventive care, and how to unlock the full value of movement.
