Happy New Year from the AgTech Alchemy Team (Walt Duflock, Sachi Desai, Rhishi P.)!! We're sending warm wishes to our amazing community as we ring in 2025! We want to share several milestones from 2024 and several planned for 2025. Things we are proud of achieving in 2024: Establishing AgTech Alchemy – with our firsts event in Redwood City in September. After years of discussing such a concept, we finally did it. Building Community Infrastructure – a regular series of events (four), establishing an active Slack community and a Linkedin Channel to share community accomplishments, bring awareness to industry leaders, and original thought leadership. Catalyzing a Passionate Community – since the initial event, we have had tremendous engagement, outreach to bring the events to locations beyond the Bay, and how people can lean in. It doesn’t need to wait for a conference and doesn’t need to be limited to VCs. Things we are planning for 2025: #QuarterlyDigitalMagazine - featuring leading voices, thinking and ideas in AgTech, Food, and Pure Play Technology. AgTech Alchemy @#WAT2025 – a special event the evening before World Agritech SF (March 10th) with speakers, mingling, and a dedicated private venue for the community to connect #EventsOutsideofCalifornia – The first AgTech Alchemy event outside of the Bay Area, we are still trying to define what this exactly is, but we have interest and engagement that beyond the Bay is a must. We will do more than what’s shared but are still planning. Regardless, the goal remains the same. Bring our passionate community of thinkers, doers and investors together to create genuine relationships and level up our industry to create impact. Thank you for your continued support! We can't wait to see what the new year brings. Happy New Year! 🎉 Now your turn, share with us what you’d like to see the AgTech Alchemy Community do in the New Year in the comments. #AgTechAlchemy #AgTechCommunity #AgTechBayArea #AgrifoodTech #AgTech #innovation #community #connections #thoughtleadership #worldagritech #quarterly David Nothmann Adam Stager Rohita Kotagiri Steve Mantle Ariel Patton Pratik Desai, PhD Lawrence Ibarria Shane Thomas Adam Bergman Robert Sisson Robert Grey Michael Ott Chris Parker Carl Lippert Gilbert Guerrero Erica Bliss Sumer S. Knock, knock! (Dad jokes go over big amongst the #AgTechAlchemy Team) Who’s there? Low commodity prices—about 45% below their all-time highs, leaving farmers asking, “How low can you go?” (Cue more dad jokes, right?) In this latest piece from Ariel Patton in her #newsletter --> #Topsoil, you’ll discover how corn and soybeans end up on the wrong side of supply and demand, why local cash prices and “basis” matter more than your dad’s grill at a weekend BBQ, and how farmers attempt to “bushel their way out” of low prices. https://lnkd.in/gAa36ZdV
The price is right (even when it’s low)

Where is agriculture headed in 2025 and beyond? I asked other ag podcasters to point me to an episode of their show from 2024 that might help us answer this question. Seven ag podcasts delivered some great content for this episode! The topics included gene editing tools, artificial intelligence, challenges in the farm economy, farm consolidation, de-commoditization, soil health, sustainable packaging, and more. Featured on this episode (in order of appearance): 1. David Friedberg of Ohalo on The Modern Acre with Tim Nuss and Tyler Nuss 2. Feroz Sheikh of Syngenta Group on Agtech - So What? with Sarah Nolet and the team at Tenacious Ventures 3. Curt Covington of AgAmerica on The Business of Agriculture with Damian Mason 4. Software is Feeding the World (last edition for 2024 tomorrow) It is no surprise that AI has dominated the conversation over the last twelve months. Waymo just released a study which showed the autonomous Waymo Driver being much safer than human drivers Will human driving become illegal in the future? Will Rudolph the red nosed reindeer lose his job to a self driving sleigh? The last edition looks at some examples (Bayer | Crop Science's E.L.Y. agent, Cropwise AI from the Syngenta Group, autonomy in equipment, use of AI in product development etc.) of where we have made progress in food and agriculture using AI, and previews some of the challenges which lie ahead (which we will explore in more depth in 2025).
