Lots of exciting ideas shared at this year’s Sustainable Agriculture Summit. I had the privilege of hosting a breakout session about the “Research Pipeline for Profitable, Climate-Smart Food Systems.” Key takeaways include the need for: 1) more field data that are accessible to researchers for calibrating greenhouse gas and soil carbon models; 2) quantifying uncertainty in models to better value agricultural carbon credits; 3) exploring new modeling techniques including the use of AI. Big shout out to Eric Coronel from Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture, William Salas from Regrow Ag, Travis Breihan from Ecosystem Services Market Consortium (ESMC), and Vipin Kumar from AI-CLIMATE Institute for their insights.

Yesterday, I presented the preliminary findings of my current project with the AI-CLIMATE Institute at the Colorado State University annual GradShowcase. I am so honored to have received “Top Scholar of the College of Agricultural Science” for my presentation of “Integrating AI Education Through Food Systems and Climate Change Curriculum” For those of you who’ve known me since the beginning, this project is a full-circle moment for me. I got my start in the ag industry through my Girl Scouts of the USA Gold Award project, in which I taught a middle school AgTech curriculum and hosted a science museum event for Ag as the “A in STEAM”. I was fortunate enough to have great mentors who invested time and energy into me very early on. I went on to deliver a talk at the inaugural Women in Food and Agriculture summit in Amsterdam in 2019, I was 17 at the time. At that talk, I was offered my first job working in product development for Syngenta, where I joined the Farmshots team (now cropwise) and led the execution of a tool for spatial recognition of crop abnormalities. I’m now 22 and finishing the first semester of my master’s degree in Soil & Crop science, where I am learning about process-based modeling and developing KGMLs for agricultural decision-making. Early in my scientific career, I’ve been given the great opportunity of leading part of the broader impacts of a large project, combining my passion for AgTech and background in ag education.

We are proud to be a part of this year's Sustainable Agriculture Summit and see the incredible growth in this community. Thank you Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy and Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture for hosting this annual event!   We are especially proud to see our Minnesota partners at USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and Troy Daniell open the summit with stories from the field and their hard work supporting farmers to adapt to recent droughts and floods.   We are grateful that our ecosystem services program is providing a key tool for NRCS to empower producers to invest in soil and ecosystem health. We look forward to continuing our mutual journey to provide tools, support and capital for farmers to invest in their own resilience.   If you are at the event today, see Travis Breihan, ESMC's Director of Business Development, participate on a 10am panel highlighting the Research Pipeline for Profitable, Climate-smart Food Systems.
