𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞: 𝐀 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞-𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 The recent Harris-Walz proposal to expand Medicare to cover home-based care is a significant step forward for families, healthcare, and the economy. With over 53 million family caregivers providing unpaid care in the U.S., this initiative would relieve financial pressure on families, offer patients better care options, and reduce reliance on costly institutional care. Covering services like home health aides, caregiving support, and personal care will provide millions of Americans the opportunity to age with dignity in their own homes - and on their own terms. Home care decreases unnecessary hospitalizations and delays and decreases long-term facility stays. This shift not only aligns with patient preferences but also improves health outcomes and lowers healthcare costs. The Harris-Walz plan also recognizes the economic impact of caregiving. Today, many family caregivers sacrifice jobs, income, and retirement savings to care for loved ones. Expanding Medicare’s coverage will create jobs in the home-care industry, reduce workforce attrition, and provide much-needed support for working caregivers. This proposal offers is win-win-win for America: better care, healthier communities, and a stronger economy. As we reflect on solutions to modern healthcare challenges, this plan addresses both quality of care and social equity, ensuring that every American, regardless of income, has access to the care they need. It’s time to recognize that home care isn’t just a personal responsibility – it’s a social and economic priority. I am thrilled to be in New York this week meeting with health plans, investors, and attending the inaugural Health and Equity Conference with Symphonic Capital! Our mission at Aidaly is to train and pay family caregivers to provide home-based care. We envision a future where getting paid to care for family is as common as driving for Uber or being a host on Airbnb. Our mission is deeply personal to me. I lost both my dads to cancer in my early 20s and had the opportunity to be their caregiver. It was an honor to care for the men who provided me so much love and care throughout my life. It was also hard work that I took time out of school and away from my career to provide — without proper training, support, or compensation. Just 3 years ago, we started a movement to #payfamilycaregivers and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the momentum. Now dozens of organizations, politicians, and entrepreneurs are responding to our call! Together, we are unifying the largest workforce in America!
