About us
Community health wherever you are. At AIRnyc, our highly trained team of Community Health Workers (CHWs) meets people where they live to improve health, connect families to critical resources, and build health equity. Our community-based organization has been transforming the lives of vulnerable New Yorkers for more than two decades through expert care coordination and coaching interventions to guide individuals and families on a healthier path. AIRnyc’s CHWs integrate with clinical care management teams to support patients living with chronic conditions such as asthma, COPD, congestive heart failure, and diabetes, or who are in need of maternity care support. CHWs also help to disseminate important public health information, and provide social needs screening and navigation to assist people who are struggling with housing instability, unemployment, food insecurity, and more. Together with our health care partners, AIRnyc strives for the best health and social care outcomes for every New Yorker we serve.

Recent brush fires in #NYC have increased the risk of worsening symptoms for people with chronic respiratory conditions. It’s more important than ever for New Yorkers to stay on top of their #respiratoryhealth. During #COPDAwarenessMonth, AIRnyc’s CHWs continue to work with vulnerable community members to connect them to care, identify triggers, and to prevent and manage their symptoms. Through continued #healthcoaching and social needs navigation, AIRnyc remains committed to supporting #Bronx residents with #COPD and all New Yorkers on their #health care journeys. #Advocacy #HealthEquity

Yesterday on #WorldDiabetesDay, AIRnyc joined Health People, #health activists, and other organizations on the steps of City Hall to stand together with Doctor Dre in the fight against #diabetes. The celebrated singer and music producer led a powerful rally, “Cut It Out NY,” as part of his “Step Up Movement to Fight Diabetes,” launched in response to the high rate of diabetes-related lower-limb amputations in New York. Dr. Dre is striving for more #healtheducation to help combat the chronic condition. At AIRnyc, our amazing team of CHWs remains committed to educating and guiding patients with diabetes to help them understand and manage their condition and achieve healthier lifestyles. We continue to partner with Sun River Health in the South Bronx to deliver the Food As Medicine Program, an initiative made possible by Elevance Health that supports high-risk patients with diabetes (or those who are pre-diabetic) through medically tailored meals, increased healthy food access, and clinical care integration. Together with our partners, we stand united in the fight against diabetes, working tirelessly to improve #health outcomes in communities disproportionately affected by #foodinsecurity, diabetes, and hypertension. Let us continue to advocate for #healthequity! #Advocacy #Bronx #NYC #DiabetesAwarenessMonth

AIRnyc got into the “spirit” of #Halloween with our 2nd Annual Spooky Season Social! Fun games, tasty food, and an impressive array of costumes were among the many highlights as we celebrated the holiday and prepared to cheer on our amazing #TeamAIRnyc charity runners at this Sunday’s #TCSNYCMarathon! CHWs created inspiring posters, which we’ll proudly be waving during Sunday’s race. Good luck to all of our runners and a big thank you for supporting AIRnyc! #Running #Charity #Teamwork #GreatCause #NYC

Caroline Helbeck started running as a way to de-stress outdoors and to push herself physically and mentally. For Caroline, running is bigger than just her: “It’s a huge community of people who share the same goal of conquering your body and mind to achieve what one would initially perceive as impossible.” In 2022, she raced the New York City Marathon to support AIRnyc, a milestone that she considers her best running experience as her entire family cheered her on and watched her accomplish the goal that she had worked so hard for. This year, Caroline will be running her third New York City Marathon and will once again proudly represent #TeamAIRnyc. She is inspired to run for AIRnyc because “this amazing charity helps close the gap of limited healthcare access and provides extremely beneficial services to those who otherwise would not receive medical assistance.” The 2024 #marathon is even more meaningful to Caroline because she is running it with both of her brothers! Completing this journey together would truly be a special achievement for all of them. Help support Caroline and AIRnyc by making a #donation to help her reach her $3,000 fundraising goal: https://lnkd.in/g_uTZvF7 #ThankYou for your support! #TCSNYCMarathon #Running #Charity #GreatCause #NYC

AIRnyc was delighted to attend the Children's Health Fund 2024 Conference! Yesterday, our CEO Lola Simpson joined other prominent #healthcare leaders to present an insightful session about the impact of Community Health Workers (CHWs) to improve access to care and reduce #health disparities for children and families living in under-resourced communities. Many of our amazing CHWs were also onsite, as we shared best practices with other organizations in our shared mission of improving the #health and well-being of children across #NYC and the U.S.! #AIRnyc #CHFCon24 #CommunityHealthWorkers #ChildrensHealth
