  • The Supreme Court has upheld the looming TikTok ban, but the Biden administration has opted not to enforce it, leaving the decision to President-elect Donald Trump. A final ruling may delay the ban for up to 90 days if a sale is close. For small businesses in Alaska and beyond, this creates a wave of uncertainty. TikTok’s unmatched organic reach, visibility, and selling power, especially for businesses in remote areas, has made it a lifeline for many. So, what happens if it’s gone? In a recent conversation with Alaska Public Media's Ava White, Alaska SBDC State Director Jonathan Bittner discussed the potential impacts and shared practical advice for business owners. Listen to the full interview at https://lnkd.in/g-KEZZdh Key takeaways for small businesses: ▪️Explore alternative platforms: Identify where your audience spends time and adjust your strategy. ▪️Build your email list: Own your audience with direct communication channels you control. ▪️Diversify your presence: Spread your efforts across multiple platforms to reduce dependency. ▪️Act now: Use the remaining time to connect with followers and guide them to your other platforms. TikTok has been a game-changer for Alaskan businesses, helping them reach far beyond local demographics. As we navigate these changes, the Alaska SBDC is here to help you adapt and thrive. What are your thoughts on the potential TikTok ban? How might it affect your business or clients? Let's talk about it. #AlaskaSBDC #SmallBusinessSupport #TikTokBan #AlaskaBusiness

  • The Alaska State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) and the newly launched Tribal SSBCI Consortium are driving equitable economic growth, innovation, and resilience across the state. Through these programs—administered by the Alaska SBDC at the UAA Business Enterprise Institute—businesses gain critical access to funding that strengthens local economies and empowers underserved communities. 📈 State SSBCI by the Numbers: 💵 $77.1M in funding delivered to 101 loans 🏢 86 businesses supported across 26 communities 🎯 90 socially and economically disadvantaged businesses (SEDI) 🔑 59 classified as very small businesses (VSB) In the Fall of 2024, the groundbreaking Tribal SSBCI Consortium launched with 125 Alaska Native tribes participating. In just a few months: 💵 $17.4M funded through 13 loans 🎯 12 SEDI-owned businesses empowered 🏡 8 very small businesses supported in 9 communities Why It Matters: The SSBCI programs fuel local businesses, create jobs, and build pathways to economic sovereignty for underserved entrepreneurs—especially Alaska Native, tribal, and rural communities.
