Congratulations to Shantay Carter, BSN, RN on being awarded the Nurse Hero Award at this year's 2024 ANA-NY Gala & Awards Ceremony! 🌟 During the pandemic, while recovering herself from COVID-19, Shantay used her social media platform to educate the community about the virus and share resources for symptom management and self-care. She also used her platform to educate and empower colleagues on COVID-19 pay laws and patient advocacy. She worked with her colleagues to develop innovative solutions to address staffing shortage issues on their unit including the development of a documentation form to ensure adequate staffing levels to provide optimal patient care during those difficult times and beyond. She was able to highlight the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color and advocate for equitable access to healthcare services through radio interviews, podcasts, and health panels. Throughout the pandemic, she continued to donate to organizations, support frontline workers, and partner with local businesses to provide meals for healthcare heroes. Congratulations to Weon Hi Kang, MSN, AGACNP-BC, FNP-C, RN on being awarded the Nurse Hero Award at this year's 2024 ANA-NY Gala & Awards Ceremony! 🌟 Weon Hi Kang provided care and nursing to COVID-19 patients on the frontlines, demonstrating remarkable courage and selflessness in the face of adversity. In addition to her invaluable contribution, she also took the initiative and collaborated with the greater New York Korean Nurses Association to pack masks in her front yard for several months, distributing them to over 800 nurses. She provided treatment to many nurses who were infected with the virus and unable to access health care, ultimately saving their lives.
