About us
Anaemia affects nearly a quarter of the global population and is a major public health concern. It impacts health, well-being, and economic development across generations, affecting cognitive development in children, infectious disease outcomes, and maternal mortality. Progress in reducing anaemia has stagnated. Poverty, gender inequality, climate change, and disparities in healthcare and education are factors that have a large bearing on reducing anaemia. A synergistic approach within health and across sectors is urgently needed for effective reduction. The Anaemia Action Alliance brings together a broad group of actors to achieve a collective vision where all women, adolescent girls, and children are empowered and enabled to benefit from appropriate and timely actions for the prevention and management of anaemia.

It’s #UHCDay! Health is a fundamental human right. Investing in #UniversalHealthCoverage demonstrably increases health and well-being, while simultaneously improving equity and social cohesion. The Anaemia Action Alliance urges stakeholders and leaders with decision-making authority to prioritize financial protection for health. It is estimated that for every US$1 invested in interventions aimed at reducing anaemia in women, US$12 in economic returns could be generated. Addressing anaemia requires a multisectoral approach. While nutritional interventions are crucial, they alone cannot address all forms of anaemia. A comprehensive strategy involving various sectors is essential to achieve significant progress. By working together, we can build healthier populations, save lives, and achieve progress towards the World Health Assembly's global nutrition goals and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Anaemia affects 1 in 4 people globally, limiting health, cognitive development, and productivity, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Tackling this complex challenge requires evidence informed strategies targeting nutritional and non-nutritional causes. Join us for an exclusive webinar hosted by Nutrition International and 3ie to explore the new Anaemia Evidence Gap Map (EGM). Developed with support from the Government of Canada, the EGM highlights key interventions and identifies critical research gaps in addressing the nutritional and non-nutritional causes of anaemia with over 2,200 impact evaluations and 57 systematic reviews.
