Another major milestone is in the books! In January, Prof. Peter Gilling, MBCHB, MD, FRACS performed his first robotic-assisted holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) procedures at Tauranga Hospital in Tauranga, New Zealand. Prof. Gilling first developed the HoLEP procedure in 1997 and pioneered robotic surgery in New Zealand in 2007. These cases added another historic first to his resume as one of the most accomplished and innovative global urologists. Prof. Gilling is serving as the lead principal investigator of our ongoing ASTRA Study. Dr. Wikus Vermeulen also performed robotic-assisted HoLEP (RoLEP) using Andromeda's platform at Tauranga Hospital as part of the study. We designed our platform with the goal of improving outcomes and reducing the learning curve for endourology procedures. We will be presenting results from the ASTRA Study at various urology conferences this year.

Great to see so many people interested in Andromeda's story. If you haven't checked out Henry Norton's Surgibots podcast, there's no better place to hear about the latest happenings in surgical robots.
I’m not usually one to share my Spotify Wrapped. My partner already mocks my music taste as "indie rubbish," but I couldn’t not sharing The Surgibots Podcast wrapped for 2024. Especially with an audience growth of 82%! Congrats to Nick Damiano, CEO and Co-Founder of Andromeda Surgical. Your episode, "The Tesla of Surgical Robotics," was the most downloaded episode of the year. It was a fascinating conversation about developing autonomous surgical robots. To all the guests in 2024, thank you for sharing your stories. It’s a privilege to host conversations that spark curiosity and innovation in surgical robotics and the wider medtech community. If you missed any of 2024's episodes, they are all on Spotify, Apple, and the last 10 are now on youtube. The latest ep with Paul Galluzzo of TTP plc is not one to miss. Let me know in the comments, which conversation has been your favorite and why? #surgicalrobotics #medtech #podcast

We’re excited to announce we were accepted into FDA’s Safer Technologies Program (STeP)! Andromeda’s mission is to empower every surgeon to deliver optimal results to every patient every time. This is great validation that FDA recognizes our technology’s potential to improve surgical safety. We’re looking forward to collaborating with FDA to bring our product’s benefits to patients and surgeons more efficiently through this program. https://lnkd.in/egRZPAy

In this week’s episode of the DeviceTalks Weekly Podcast, Nick Damiano, co-founder and CEO of Andromeda Surgical, previews his talk at DeviceTalks West by introducing listeners to the potential of #AutonomousSurgery. Still early goings on, but Damiano paints and interesting picture of the future. If you want to see the future register at West.DeviceTalks.com. Speaking of the future, Host Tom Salemi speaks with Brody Galloway, a young MedTech professional who has turned his life’s #healthcare experiences into a love of the industry and a drive to help. And finally, MassDevice Editor Chris Newmarker returns with his Newmarker’s Newsmakers – #SurgicalRobotics, Medtronic, ResMed, Layoffs and, of course, Baxter International Inc. We're excited to welcome Michael Nketiah, MBA, RAC to our team as Chief of Regulatory & Quality! Building products that push the boundaries of surgical robotics requires charting new territory with regulatory bodies, and Michael with his creative, first-principles approach is going to be a huge asset to our team. He brings an outstanding 25-year track record as a regulatory & quality leader in the medtech industry. He will lead US and global regulatory matters including strategy, submissions, and interactions with regulatory authorities. Michael previously held leading regulatory & quality roles at Nexalin Technology, InterVenn Bioscience, Tivic Health, Previvo Genetics, and PROCEPT BioRobotics. At PROCEPT he was responsible for obtaining the initial US FDA De Novo Request grant for the Aquablation System and other global market approvals including Australia, Canada, CE Mark, and New Zealand.
