About us
The Annenberg Foundation is a private family foundation that provides funding and support to nonprofit organizations in the United States and globally. Since 1989, it has generously funded programs in education and youth development; arts, culture and humanities; civic and community life; health and human services; and animal services and the environment. In addition, the Foundation and its Board of Directors are directly involved in the community with several projects that expand and complement its grant support to nonprofits. Among them are innovative nonprofit capacity building initiatives, the Annenberg Space for Photography, Explore, and the Metabolic Studio. As the principal means of achieving this goal, the Foundation encourages the development of more effective ways to share ideas and knowledge.

We're thrilled to see two Annenberg Foundation-supported projects featured in the Los Angeles Times' "The 8 best new architecture projects in L.A. for 2024." Within Isla Intersections, a supportive housing project in South L.A. designed by Lorcan O'Herlihy Architects [LOHA], the Annenberg Foundation is proud to support the paseo, a space for hosting farmers markets and other events, which includes a "living lung" to help reduce air and noise pollution: bit.ly/3VjwRm1. And in the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County's new NHM Commons, designed by Frederick Fisher and Partners, you'll find the Wallis Annenberg Lobby, South L.A. Cafe, a new historic mural, and Gnatalie, the green-boned dinosaur – all open to the public with free entry: bit.ly/3ZwyhMt. #LosAngeles #Architecture #Community #CommunityHub #SupportiveHousing

As we honor #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth, we’re excited to showcase some of the inspiring efforts of grantees driving meaningful change both locally and across the nation: • Tia Chucha's Centro Cultural & Bookstore is committed to transforming community through ancestral knowledge, the arts, literacy and creative engagement. They provide multi-disciplinary arts education classes to youth, adults, and elders to learn about themselves and their culture. • Native American Land Conservancy safeguards off-reservation sacred sites in California's ancestral territories and protects and restores sacred sites nationwide. Their comprehensive approach includes educational initiatives for Native American youth and the wider public, along with scientific studies on cultural, biological, and historical aspects of sacred lands. • Indian Pueblo Cultural Center serves as a gathering place where Pueblo Culture is celebrated through creative and cultural experiences, while providing economic opportunities to Pueblo and local communities. All programming is managed and sustained with the guidance of the administrative/executive team, proudly representing the Tribal Councils of the 19 New Mexico Pueblos. #Community #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth2024 #Culture #NativeAmericanPride

With gratitude to our supporters, we are making great strides toward building the Fallen Journalists Memorial on the National Mall in Washington to honor journalists around the world who seek and report the truth in the face of grave danger.
From selecting an architect, to finalizing our design concept and getting it approved, 2024 has been a milestone year for the Fallen Journalists Memorial Foundation. We have never been closer to achieving our vision of a memorial on the National Mall—and are eager to continue our mission of honoring a free and independent press, and the journalists who have lost their lives in service to that cause. As we progress toward a planned groundbreaking in 2026, we want to thank those who have encouraged our work and supported our mission throughout the year, especially our early lead investors, including the Annenberg Foundation, Jeff Bezos, Bloomberg Philanthropies, Don Graham, the Knight Foundation and the Ferro Foundation. You can check out the memorial’s design concept, created by John Ronan Architects, in the video below. vimeo.com/967169897

Yesterday’s Executive Leader Roundtable on Navigating AI in Philanthropy was vital – a moment of candid reflection with peers. I’m grateful to Kathleen Enright and the Council on Foundations for hosting this much-needed conversation and to the foundation leaders who shared their current state. The conversation highlighted several key themes: · AI adoption is uneven: While many organizations are experimenting with AI, some don't know where to begin. · Collaboration is critical: The challenges AI presents—ethical, operational, and strategic—require collective learning and shared frameworks like https://lnkd.in/gECaQfdg · Leadership sets the tone: The role of C-Suite leaders is critical in fostering a values-driven approach that encourages innovation across silos. At the Annenberg Foundation, we are committed to learning alongside our peers and navigating this new terrain with intention. Yesterday’s dialogue reinforced the importance of spaces where leaders can exchange ideas openly and collaboratively. Thank you to all who joined.
