I have worked with leaders at every stage of their journey—from current college students brimming with potential to seasoned C-suite executives navigating complex challenges. Strengths-Based Coaching for Executives: For executives, my coaching focuses on aligning strengths with strategic decision-making, building authentic leadership, and fostering a culture of accountability and innovation. Through targeted, strengths-based conversations, I empower leaders to navigate challenges with clarity and lead with impact. Developing the Next Generation of Leaders: Equally rewarding is my investment in coaching college students—our future executives. By helping them uncover their strengths early, I guide them in building a foundation of self-awareness, resilience, and leadership skills that will serve them as they enter their careers. The bridge between these two groups is intentional development. Titles do not define leadership—it is determined by the ability to inspire, influence, and create meaningful change. Coaching with Apogee Executive Coaching I provides the clarity and confidence needed to lead, whether managing a startup or steering a global organization.

Grateful for the opportunity to partner with Justin Sinclair M.Ed, MSW and Epiphany Education in supporting team facilitation at District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) Lafayette Elementary School. Together, we listened deeply to the needs of the staff and continued our work in creating inclusive classrooms while addressing the ever-present challenge of teacher fatigue. Co-presenting with Justin allowed us to align with the Principal Prall’s vision of fostering inclusive classrooms while prioritizing inclusive spaces for adults. It was gratifying to hear teachers and staff share that they felt “heard” and “seen” and to witness their ability to openly name “what I need” to ensure psychological safety—not just for themselves but for the entire school community. I am excited about the impact this work is having and look forward to further collaboration with Justin and the Epiphany Education team to support schools in meaningful, transformative ways.

As I conclude six months of leadership coaching with an incredible cohort of non-profit leaders, I am reminded of the transformative power of truly listening—on all three levels. • Internal Listening: Recognizing our inner dialogue and its impact on the conversation. • Focused Listening: Fully engaging with the other person's words, tone, and emotions. • Global Listening: Tuning into the moment's energy, environment, and unspoken dynamics. These three listening levels were central to my coaching role, enabling me to better understand and support each non-profit leader's unique needs. Thank you to the Crimsonbridge Foundation for sponsoring and advocating for this leadership development initiative. Your commitment to empowering leaders makes this work possible. To the non-profit leaders who participated in the Strengths Coaching Collective, thank you for trusting me to walk alongside you on this journey. Your dedication to growth, resilience, and service inspires me, and I am excited to see the continued ripple effects of your leadership in the communities you serve. Barry O. Brinkley James D. Honored to have spoken at #BMEC2024, the largest gathering of Black male educators in the country. Working alongside Harold McCray, Jr., Ed.D., Jacob Waites, and Joseph E. Speight, Jr. made this experience incredibly meaningful. Together, we focused on helping leaders reflect on their leadership styles, build self-awareness, and understand how their leadership behaviors impact their teams and communities. I am grateful to have led a group of Black male teachers and leaders of KIPP DC at #BMEC2024 as we plan our 2025 professional development day for Black male educators. We are watering the seeds planted at #BMEC2024 by Sharif El-Mekki and the Center for Black Educator Development, driving change, dispelling false narratives, and creating more opportunities for Black male educators.

This summer, I had the privilege of leading a Gallup Strengths team coaching session for the HBCU summer interns at Gallagher Bassett This session was an impactful journey into understanding and leveraging their individual and collective strengths. This awarding-winning initiative was spearheaded by Brandon Johnson and Antoine Green, AIS, AINS, reflect their commitment to fostering diversity within their organization. When organizations invest in the professional development of HBCU students, they are not just supporting individual growth—they contribute to creating a more equitable workforce and empowering the next generation of leaders. Kudos to all the interns for their enthusiasm and dedication! Iron Sharpens Iron: Strength in Leadership and Brotherhood As Black men, and C-Suite leaders, our leadership styles are influenced by our unique personal experiences, and embracing that truth is critical to leading purposefully. I recently had the honor of facilitating a transformative session with Black male healthcare executives. The learning session mandated each leader: • Honor all parts of their social identities as Black men • Identify their mentors and support systems • Connect with the emotions experienced over their professional journey • Harness their personal core values when experiencing professional pressure It was truly inspiring to witness the unwavering commitment, deep engagement, and strong sense of accountability in the room as these incredible leaders sharpened one another. This is the essence of 'Iron Sharpens Iron'—we grow stronger together.
