  • ⭐ Employee Spotlight ⭐ on Becky Powell, BSN, RN, at Appalachian Regional Behavioral Health Hospital Though she has only been with UNC Health Appalachian for almost two years, Becky has worked in behavioral health for 23 years. At ARBH, she serves as the Assistant Nurse Manager where she co-manages the daily operations, and supervises patient care delivery, staffing, and scheduling. “I spend a lot of time working with various team members to streamline workflow processes to improve staff experiences while also ensuring patients receive the best quality of care,” she said. “My philosophy has always been that each of us is just one major life event away from potentially needing the behavioral health services that we are providing. Working with this very special population is an honor as I am helping people at their most vulnerable. I love working at UNC-A and with this team and I do so with pride. I’ve been so impressed during my time here by the employees and leadership. It is obvious that my teammates really have a passion for meeting the needs of this community.” And Becky fits right in with that degree of compassion and dedication. In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, a young couple and their baby were trying to make their way from Asheville to the Todd/Deep Gap area. They somehow made it to Cannon Memorial Hospital to seek refuge and were welcomed by so many employees. It was Becky though who went out of her way to take extra care of them helping them locate gas and making them comfortable while they were there. The experience made such a positive impact on the young family that they made a special trip back in December just to say thank you. Becky is taking her commitment to healthcare a step further by pursuing a Master’s in Nursing Administration. When she isn’t working at ARBH or doing school work, she loves spending time with her family and friends and watching all sports - especially football and baseball. She also enjoys time spent on the lake in the warm months or curling up with a good book. #onegreatteam #carolinacare #unchealthappalachian

A UNCHA nurse who is currently participating in the program said: “I am a new grad nurse participating in the Nurse Residency Program at Watauga Medical Center. It created a positive support system for a lot of us new grads. We got to talk and see each other and form relationships with people who were embarking on the same kind of journey all together. All of the people that we got to meet were definitely faces that I see on a daily basis and just knowing that you have those resources around you just made me feel so supported. All around this experience has been a very positive one.” https://lnkd.in/exNWCNuZ
