I get asked all the time... "How do we fix our afforable housing problem?" and my easy answer is that we already have the solutions. "We just have to get ourselves out of the way so we can use them". Check out the best built home for the buck, this isnt your grandmothers 1977 double wide... this is a better built home than most of the large spec built homes that you see that are the typical close together developments that first time home buyers purchased. Its built indoors where the rain hasnt soaked all the wood before the drywall goes up and the lumber isnt twisted and moldy from all the weather it was exposed to. I think we need to have a hard discussion about rights for people in public housing. According to the Urban Institute, in 2020 we spent $59 Billion on public housing and this is what we give people? I think we need to set up manditory annual unit testing for mold and safety/code violations for all public housing projects and rate each city with a grade score. My friend Brandon Ison started to take a look at what is going on in Chicago. Here is a quick story. This is a national problem and not just in Chicago.
