ASC is a group of women attorneys in DFW supporting a local nonprofit beneficiary each year.

About us

Attorneys Serving the Community (ASC) began in 1987 when a handful of Dallas women attorneys pooled their talents and interests, joining together in the spirit of community service. Today ASC is a dynamic volunteer organization of over 400 women lawyers and law students from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. ASC’s mission is to bring together women lawyers who collectively utilize their resources and talents to support local non-profit organizations whose programs benefit women, children or families. ASC also is committed to providing its members with leadership and networking opportunities as it carries out its primary mission of serving the community. Each year, ASC presents fundraising events that support its selected beneficiary, culminating in the annual ASC Luncheon. ASC’s annual beneficiary receives not only all of the money raised by its events but also enjoys increased public awareness of its services. ASC has been fortunate to have nationally-known guest speakers at each luncheon, including such notables as former First Lady Laura Bush and Today Show correspondent Jenna Bush Hager; Former First Lady, Senator and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton; psychologist and columnist Dr. Joyce Brothers; opera legend Beverly Sills; athlete Wilma Rudolph; model Marla Hanson; community leader Alma Powell; environmental activist Erin Brockovich; actors Jill Eikenberry and Michael Tucker; “Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts; and author and screenwriter Antwone Fisher. Since 1987, ASC has raised over $5 million for Dallas area non-profits. ASC’s success is a tribute to the strong commitment by many area lawyers, law firms, businesses and individuals to the beneficiaries ASC has served.

  • Happy Monday! Today's member spotlight is Deborah Schmidt. Deborah is a solo practitioner specializing in probate. After several wonderful years in downtown Dallas, she shifted her affiliation with FGHW to of counsel, and was able to open the Law Office of Deborah J Schmidt in Richardson. She enjoys the privilege of working closer to her home in Collin County, and serving family and friends in northeast Texas. Deborah represents clients in Probate, Guardianship, and Trust Administration and Litigation; serves as ad litem to the probate courts in Collin and Hunt County; and facilitates Life & Legacy estate planning. Deborah joined ASC around 2018, and served on the charity-selection and luncheon committees. She loves the variety of annual events, from shopping with colleagues at the auctions, bazaars, and ASC Goes Couture; to running the Heart & Sole 5K with her family; to attending the Annual Luncheon with friends each spring. Deborah serves on the boards for Collin County Bar (Probate Section) and Texas Women Lawyers, and is also a member of Dallas and Collin County Women Lawyers Associations, and Rotary International. She appreciates that ASC connects our members to a new charity each year, and values the ongoing education about each charity's purpose and efforts to make DFW a better place for each of us to live. • Attorneys Serving the Community and POETIC are thrilled to announce Elizabeth Smart as the keynote speaker for ASC's 38th Annual Luncheon benefiting POETIC. The Luncheon will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025 at the Thompson Dallas. The abduction of Elizabeth Smart in 2002 was one of the most followed child abduction cases of our time, and her safe return to her family nine months later was celebrated by people across the country. Since that time, Elizabeth has become an advocate for change related to child abduction, sexual violence and exploitation, recovery programs, and national legislation. The founder of the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, Elizabeth has helped promote The National AMBER Alert, The Adam Walsh Child Protection & Safety Act, and other safety legislation to help prevent abductions. She has chronicled her experiences and reflections in the New York Times best-selling book, "My Story," and in her most recent book, "Where There’s Hope." Together with other abduction survivors, Elizabeth worked with the Department of Justice to create "You're Not Alone: The Journey From Abduction to Empowerment," a survivor’s guide for children who have gone through similar experiences. In 2022, Elizabeth’s foundation joined forces with the Malouf Foundation, and together they educate the public on how to identify victims of sex trafficking in their communities and how to discuss personal safety with children. Elizabeth’s abduction and recovery — and her impactful work as a child safety advocate — continue to motivate parents, law enforcement, and leaders worldwide to focus on children’s safety and healing.
