Truly an amazing opportunity! I am pleased to share that my 9th grader earned her first university credits with CTL Academy Center for Teaching and Learning and their partnership with ASU Universal Pathways. She earned college credits before high school credits. On top of that she learned about a fascinating subject around sustainable engineering in a course that was well designed, rigorous and included some live sessions as well. Overall the experience and outcomes were excellent- the process -well we are talking about a teen so there were some moments. :-) I definitely recommend this experience and look forward to incorporating it in future education programs that I run.

Honored to have joined Deloitte’s New Era of Higher Education Forum panel today on "The Future of the Four-Year Degree" with this incredible group of leaders: Ruth Watkins (Strada Education) Network, Pascale Charlot (Aspen Institute), Mildred García, Ed.D., (California State University System), Scott Pulsipher (Western Governors University) and Archie Holmes (University of Texas System) Today’s discussion underscored a shared urgency to make higher education more flexible and accessible. I shared how universities are not just in the business of education but social transformation. To meet the diverse needs of ALL learners, we must expand beyond the traditional four-year residential model. Innovative models like Universal Learner Courses (ASU Universal Pathways) and ASU Local are helping learners access flexible pathways to degrees and career success. I’m so grateful for the invitation from Deloitte to participate and to my fellow panelists, who inspired me. Millie and Pascale emphasized the need for higher education to be more relevant, accessible, and focused on real-world outcomes like social mobility and good jobs. Archie highlighted Texas’ work on innovative credentialing, creating new pathways for learners. Scott challenged us to rethink the time-based credentialing model, focusing instead on truly learner-centric approaches. Thank you, Ruth, for being a wonderful moderator. And thank you Cole Clark for bringing us together and for curating such a fantastic forum for reimagining a system of education that meets learners where they are, empowering them for success!
