Today marks the Martin Luther King Jr holiday’s 30th anniversary as a National Day of Service. This day was established to honor Dr. King's life and legacy and encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. Americans first celebrated MLK Jr. Day as a federal holiday on January 20, 1986. In 1994, Congress designated the holiday as a National Day of Service, marking the third Monday of January every year as the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service—a “Day on, Not a Day Off.” On this day of service, ARMA honors the memory of Dr. King and is grateful for the many volunteers, partners, and sponsors who do so much for the manufacturing community. Dr. King's words are timeless and remain deeply relevant today. May we continue to be inspired by his example and legacy today and throughout the coming year. #MLKDay2025, #NationalDayofService #CivilRights, #Equality, #IHaveADream, #MLKDayOn.

Yesterday, the NAM joined House Ways and Means Chairman Rep. Jason Smith, Senate Finance Chair Sen. Mike Crapo and Rep. Steve Scalise to announce the release of the NAM's new tax study that found 6 million jobs + &1.1T in GDP are at stake if Congress doesn't preserve the Trump 2017 tax cuts. What's on ARMA CEO Kevin Fincher's favorite books list? "All About Smart Manufacturing" by ▪️ Mike Nager ▪️, "Supply Jane Clears the Way," and"Supply Jane and FIFO Fix the Flow" by Megan Preston Meyer. Let's get these books in the hands of parents, teachers, and schools so kids can get excited about a future in manufacturing! #advancedmanufacturing #manufacturing #futuremanufacturers #education #readingiscool
I often see posts about “the latest book I’ve read”, so I decided to share the latest books I’ve read. All About Smart Manufacturing by ▪️ Mike Nager ▪️ Supply Jane Clears the Way and Supply Jane and FIFO Fix the Flow by Megan Preston Meyer. Why am I reading “children’s books”? If we are to recruit and build the Industry 4.0 workforce of the future, we need to be recruiting our future thinkers and makers in elementary school right now. These books offer great examples of real life issues in manufacturing and cover topics such as theory of constraint, process flow, robots, automation, and more. I am looking for some grant funding so we can buy these books in bulk and not only distribute them through your regional elementary schools, but to create “reading times” so we can actually do some show and tell and get kids interested in #advancedmanufacturing. But we also need to get the parents involved, so how about we send these home with children so their parents can read them as well!

Congratulations to ARMA member Carr Lane Manufacturing Co. on this excellent feature by Tony Gunn! What a great story of a company that went from a small garage operation to becoming a global leader in tooling components today. ARMA is proud to count Carr Lane and CEO Colin Frost among its members!

From Garage Beginnings to Global Giant, Join me for a Tour of Carr Lane Manufacturing Co. in Elgin Texas! Carr Lane Manufacturing, founded in 1952 by Earl and Myrtle Walker, has evolved from a modest garage operation into a global leader in tooling components. Initially operating from their home in Kirkwood, Missouri, the Walkers identified a growing demand for standardized parts in the manufacturing industry. This insight led to the creation of a company that would set industry standards for quality and innovation. In the 1960s, Carr Lane relocated to Shrewsbury, Missouri, to accommodate its expanding operations. The 1980s marked a period of significant growth, including a joint venture with German company ROEMHELD Gruppe in 1982. This partnership, known as Carr Lane Roemheld Mfg. Co., aimed to distribute power workholding products across North America. In 2022, the venture rebranded as ROEMHELD North America to align more closely with the global brand. Carr Lane’s product line has expanded to over 100,000 standard items, serving industries such as aerospace, automotive, agriculture, and automation. The company is renowned for its jig and fixture components, including toggle clamps, drill bushings, and alignment pins. Their commitment to quality is highlighted by ISO 9001:2015 certification, ensuring consistently high standards in manufacturing processes. In August 2023, Carr Lane opened a new 50,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Elgin, Texas. This $12 million investment represents the largest in the company’s history and its commitment to growth and innovation. The facility employs over 70 people and is expected to play a pivotal role in the company’s expansion plans. In May 2024, Carr Lane acquired PX Tool Company, a provider of jig, fixture, and robotic hardware based in Madison Heights, Michigan. This strategic acquisition enhances Carr Lane’s product portfolio, particularly in the agricultural and construction equipment sectors, and aligns with their mission to be the world’s preferred tooling component supplier. Looking ahead, Carr Lane continues to focus on innovation and quality. Under the leadership of CEO Colin Frost the grandson of the founders, the company is poised to explore new markets and expand its product offerings. Their ongoing commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction positions them well for sustained growth in the evolving manufacturing landscape. Carr Lane’s journey from a small garage to a global manufacturing leader exemplifies the impact of visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to quality. As they celebrate over 70 years in the industry, their focus remains on meeting and exceeding customer expectations, ensuring a vibrant future in the world of manufacturing.
