The Free Route Airspace (FRA) initiative was identified as one of the projects during the first African Aviation Sustainability Laboratory hosted by #AFRAA in June 2022. FRA allows airlines to plan routes freely between defined entry and exit points, leading to significant cost savings, shorter travel times and reduced CO2 emissions. So far 6 AFRAA member airlines have joined the FRA trials. These include: Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, Royal Air Maroc, EGYPTAIR, RwandAir Ltd and Airlink. Several trials have already been conducted thus providing, critical data, showcasing promising results (i.e. reduced flight time, reduced fuel burn and lower Co2 emissions). This initiative is poised to enhance Africa's air navigation efficiency and environmental sustainability, benefiting both airlines and passengers. Implementing the #FRA is a major step towards transforming the African aviation market, paving the way for a more efficient and eco-friendly future. #BetterSkiesForAfrica

Kenya Airports Authority issues tender for new VIP terminal at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). Kenya Airports Authority announced a tender for the development and management of a new Commercially Important Persons (CIP) Terminal at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). In a notice, KAA invited expressions of interest (EOI) from eligible firms to take on this project. The CIP terminal is set to provide exclusive, high-end services for dignitaries, business executives, and other high-profile passengers traveling through JKIA. As part of the bidding process, firms are expected to participate in a mandatory pre-bid and site visit scheduled for December 17, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. on the rooftop of the JKIA parking garage. This visit will allow potential bidders to understand the project’s scope and requirements fully. This initiative aligns with Kenya’s broader goal of modernizing its airport infrastructure to meet international standards. By focusing on improving passenger experiences, particularly for VIP travelers, KAA hopes to boost JKIA’s status as a leading hub in the region. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dgtDUBKq
