New on AzureRoad, Summer Rylander highlights the work being done by Nzatu Food Group to bring regenerative agriculture to African #coffee farmers. We love coffee at Azure Road and want to help readers understand the how challenging coffee farming has become for smallholders, especially in the wake of droughts, floods, and overall 'global weirding.' https://lnkd.in/e2BHsfqM

As we continue talking about sustainable changes you can make in your home, I want to bring attention to the fantastic company Made Trade. Cayley Pater and Andy Ives met in 2005 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Fair Trade Club. Eventually, they got married and launched this online retail company with one mission: to simplify the process of discovering ethically made and sustainably sourced home goods and clothing by allowing values-vetted artisans to sell their goods on the site. Made Trade feels like the retail ying to our editorial yang at AzureRoad. To bring attention to their sustainable furniture brands, we combed through the site to find five beautiful pieces. It helps that they're having a big sale this week, too!

Over the weekend, I took stock of my household cleaning and kitchen products. Four years ago, I started swapping out plastic-heavy products like laundry detergent and hand soap pumps with refillable solutions. Here's the inventory of ten common cleaners and products I've successfully switched. New on AzureRoad. Do you drink #mezcal? Are you familiar with the industry's pressing challenges in biodiversity loss and the erosion of heritage and cultural significance surrounding this indigenous drink? Jon Darby, founder of The Sin Gusano Project, shared his thoughts in this guest post on AzureRoad. It deserves a read -- and your comments. "Over the last five years I’ve traveled fairly extensively through agave communities in rural Mexico, and even in that relatively short time I’ve noticed a shocking level of deforestation. The rolling hills outside towns like San Juan del Rio in Oaxaca’s Tlacolula district— once covered in patchwork agave fields — are now planted entirely with row after row of Espadin plants." -- Jon Darby https://lnkd.in/e_Dis3Ar

Many thanks to Summer Rylander for this insightful piece on high-value, low-impact tourism, with #Botswana as the model. This story raises a critical question: what are the implications of limiting access to travel and meaningful experiences based on financial privilege? Summer will tackle that next for AzureRoad. Loved this story by Betsy Andrews on Brooklyn's newest Kaiseki restaurant, @ikigai where all the proceeds are donated to the hunger-relief organization Rescuing Leftover Cuisine. New on AzureRoad. "Choreographed yet comforting, this was an evening at Ikigai, a restaurant that opened in Brooklyn in July with a mission. It is the brainchild of entrepreneur Dan Soha, who made his money in Bay Area and Nevada businesses — fashion wear socks, auto insurance, marketing — before moving to New York two years ago, where he bought a condominium building with a commercial space on the ground floor for Ikigai. All of it was part of Soha’s master plan, to open a restaurant where 100 percent of the profits go to feed the hungry." https://lnkd.in/e8njA7iS
