It's with heavy hearts that Best Buddies in Florida shares the passing of one of our cherished participants, Kendra Holden. Kendra was a beacon of light to all who knew her - radiating kindness, joy, and love. "For a long time, my biggest dream was that I would find friends who would see past my wheelchair and disability and see the real me- someone full of passion, optimism, humor, and dreams. In 2021, I joined Best Buddies at the University of Central Florida. For the first time in my life, I realized that I had always felt like I was standing on the outside looking in. But not with this group. They saw me—not the wheelchair, not my disability. They saw me. And they didn’t just accept me—they celebrated me. They were interested in hearing my stories, my dreams, my sense of humor. For the first time, I felt like I had a place where I truly belonged. I started to believe in myself in ways I had never dared before. I gained confidence. I developed leadership skills. I found the courage to stand up and advocate for others like me. Best Buddies has taught me that the challenges I face do not define me—they’re just a part of my story.
