Home is more than four walls and a roof 🏡 It is a place where we should feel safe and loved 🧡 Everyone deserves a home — and that includes pets in shelters 😸🐶 Shelter and rescue workers like you are working hard to find homes for every pet, but the reality is that today, not every dog and cat gets to experience the love and comfort of home. 💔 All we need is just 6% more people to choose to adopt versus purchase their pets to close the national lifesaving gap and #SaveThemAll! 🧡 Help us #BringLoveHome for pets across our nation - share and get your community involved in lifesaving! 🧡🐾 Visit bestfriends.org/home to learn more.

Joining Best Friends Network Partners was one of the first things Pets of Ohio Rescue Team (PORT) founders Regan Goins and Jamie Thornhill as soon as they started their new rescue in July. PORT was the 5,000th organization to join Best Friends Network Partners 🎉 "That's one of the first things that we wanted to be a part of," says Regan. "Our organization came about because of collaboration. It's a huge resource, not only for us, but for the dogs, and so of course we jumped on it immediately." PORT specializes in helping Ohio county shelters with at-risk dogs. They've helped 105 dogs in just four months as a rescue—dogs like Golfy. Rescues like PORT play an important role in the lifesaving ecosystem by bringing in pets that need extra attention so that shelters can focus on volume and length-of-stay, thus enabling them to save more pets in the same amount of time. PORT, congratulations on your early success, and thank you for joining us! We're thrilled to have you on the team!

To ensure government buy-in for his county shelter's budget, Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center Director Scott Trebatoski knows he has to bring the data. He advises shelter leaders fighting for their budget to remind government officials of the positive economic impact that pet adoption has on the area. Hillsborough County has maintained a 90%+ save rate for five years, according to their data in Shelter Pet Data Alliance. That's incredible work by their team, and Director Trebatoski says having a government supportive of pet adoption has been instrumental!

What is the number one holiday wish during the holidays for shelters and rescues? For their pets to find loving homes, of course! Well, this year, Chewy is answering this holiday wish with their Chewy Claus Campaign! From November 29th-December 1st, Chewy is partnering with Best Friends, as well as rescues and shelters across the country, to help get as many pets as possible home for the holidays. These organizations are waiving adoption fees during this three-day adoption event to give as many pets as possible the gift of a family for the holidays. We're excited to see 100+ network partners participating in Chewy Claus! https://lnkd.in/da5wYS8F

In animal welfare, there's no feeling more helpless than not being able to help a pet parent who desperately wants to keep their pet. That's why Dogs Matter, a program of Best Friends Network Partner Dallas Pets Alive!, exists: more specifically, they enable pet parents who need inpatient treatment for alcohol or substance abuse disorder to take that necessary step by giving them a temporary safe place for their pets. Stephen Knight, Dogs Matter Founder & Executive Director, is one of the 2024 five CNN Heroes. If he wins the Hero of the Year, he could win more than $100,000 to continue his work. You can vote here up to 10 times daily through December 3: https://lnkd.in/gVBf-u_X Watch CNN's story about Dogs Matter's impact to learn more about how they help keep families together: https://lnkd.in/gjv8RUJU

Haven Animal Rescue of Texas (HART) is a young rescue that has already figured out how to use data to get buy-in from their local elected officials. HART volunteer Steve McCoy, a former elected official himself, has taken the lead on these efforts, taking advantage of public meeting opportunities to share HART's operational highlights in a brief, 3-minute data presentation with a handout. This outreach to elected officials has helped form a partnership between HART and their local government and raised awareness among local leaders about how HART helps the community. Added bonus: their local media also attends these meetings, and now HART has an adoptable pet feature in their weekly county newspaper! According to Shelter Pet Data Alliance, HART has saved 21% more pets this year than they had at this point in 2023. Working with their local government may be only one piece of the puzzle, but it's certainly an important part of getting their community involved.
