Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) and Biodiversity Pathways have established an exciting four-year contribution agreement. This agreement provides seed funding for the creation of the Biodiversity Pathways and to improve science capacity for caribou research and human footprint mapping in British Columbia. We are pleased to share that a portion of this funding has helped establish a grant-tenured faculty position at the University of British Columbia Okanagan. Dr. Tal Avgar has begun to build a research program focused on woodland caribou recovery, evidence-based climate change resiliency, and supporting Indigenous communities in environmental stewardship. https://lnkd.in/ghWqG79H

The Reconnecting the Rockies:BC project aims to mitigate the impact of Highway 3 on wildlife habitat connectivity and reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions in southeast British Columbia. Since 2024, the project team has installed multiple kilometres of fencing and retrofitted bridges into underpasses to help wildlife cross the highway safely. Early results from an effectiveness monitoring program show that wildlife are readily using the crossing structures within the fenced sections. A 2020-24 progress report is now online, and includes a summary of project progress, data collected to date, and recommendations to ensure project effectiveness. https://lnkd.in/gTEqxVm4 #wildlife #BritishColumbia

#GetToKnow the ABMI’s management team! Today we are introducing you to Colleen Scott, the ABMI’s Program Manager. Colleen has been the ABMI’s Program Manager since 2006. What started out as a short-term engagement has turned into a long-term commitment to the ABMI’s vision and mission. Her days are spent managing all things corporate (contracts, finance, risk management, partner engagement), supporting our Executive Director, and working with our Board of Directors and Members. In recent years, she was instrumental in establishing ABMI’s national affiliate Biodiversity Pathways (for which she is also Program Manager), and gaining eligibility status for the ABMI with the Canadian Foundation for Innovation national grant program. Outside of her workdays, Colleen balances her administrative mindset with painting and playing piano. #ABMIatWork
