Last month, we had the opportunity to visit Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and were graciously offered a tour of their impressive research lab (spot our SPARK powered ankle-assist device). It was wonderful to experience and see, up close, all of the innovative assistive technology and gait training equipment that's accessible to people of all ages who need mobility support. #mobility #disability #tech #AssistiveTech #rehabilitation

Transforming the treatment of impaired mobility by energizing every step.
About us
At BIOMOTUM, we envision a world where all people have access to optimal mobility. Our mission is to optimize human mobility by providing intelligent and intuitive wearable systems, to a wide range of users in the medical and consumer markets. We empower individuals to live healthy and productive lives through the use of our clinically validated products. The Problem A person’s ability to engage in physical activity, including activities of daily living, is essential to their health, independence, and general wellbeing. According to the CDC, approximately 50 million U.S. adults and children have a physical disability and are unable to engage in some activities of daily living or achieve a sufficient amount of physical activity. Mobility training is critical to improving mobility but there is currently no viable way to deliver a sufficient dose of active gait training. Our Solution The BIOMOTUM System addresses the need for individuals to be mobile while being able to engage in sufficient mobility therapy. It allows them to walk independently in the clinic, at home and in the community. Clinical trials have repeatedly demonstrated improvement in mobility outcomes in children with CP. As a smart device, it provides rehabilitation professionals and users activity data to facilitate progression and continued improvement in mobility. Our History BIOMOTUM was founded in 2019, by Dr. Zach Lerner, Dr. Ray Browning and Joe Lerner. The founders have been associates for many years. Drs. Lerner and Browning met in 2011 through a shared interest pediatric physical activity as a way to improve chronic diseases and have maintained collaborations since that time.

Today is #WorldCerebralPalsyDay and we're joining in to celebrate the CP community and what makes each individual #UniquelyCP. Everyone has a story to tell and we're grateful to Biomotum team member, Katy Gaastra, for sharing hers on our platform today: “I have #CerebralPalsy and wear an assistive device to support my mobility — whether I’m cycling around the Pacific Northwest or heading into work, I know I can rely on my #ExoSym to get me to where I need to go with confidence. But that hasn't always been the case — I spent half of my twenties dealing with painful injuries to my feet that really slowed me down. The CP community needs and deserves better tools that can help us participate in our own lives instead of worrying about the future but that's why I’m excited to support Biomotum’s mission and stand behind the product we’re building — I know how supportive and effective SPARK will be for people with CP because I’ve experienced so many life-changing impacts from similar technology."

"Our device can also help people who are simply slowing down from the #aging process, but who want to maintain physical activity as part of their daily routine. Wearable robotics have often been pigeonholed into the category of rehabilitation, but we want to also serve older adults who simply want to maintain their independence, physical activity and a healthy lifestyle." - Ray Browning, CEO & Co-Founder, Biomotum Thanks for the highlight, AgeTech Collaborative™ from AARP!
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 1 billion people worldwide live with some form of disability. Many of these individuals experience mobility impairments that affect their daily lives, including older adults facing barriers to independence, social connections, and physical activity. As a result, this mobility gap exacerbates social isolation, limits access to healthcare, and hinders overall well-being, disproportionately impacting their quality of life. BIOMOTUM, Inc., an AgeTech Collaborative™ from AARP startup participant, is pioneering innovative assistive robotics and wearable technology to address this critical issue, empowering individuals to maintain physical activity, independence, and a healthy lifestyle. Learn how their initiatives are bridging the gap and fostering a more inclusive mobility landscape in our latest blog post: https://lnkd.in/gsFrVnzg #MobilityInclusion #AgeTechCollaborative #Empowerment #SocialImpact

How do you pay for your assistive tech? Our team would like to learn more about your approach to how you or your clinic pays for medical equipment, assistive devices (orthoses, walkers, etc.) and healthcare products or services. Will you take our brief survey? ➡ Patients & Caregivers: https://lnkd.in/gqHmmAsW ➡ Rehab Professionals: https://lnkd.in/gMNA7E5Y It’s our goal to deliver products that are accessible to people who use assistive technology — whether in their own lives, or in their clinical practice. Your feedback will help us to achieve that goal. We'll meet you where you are in your journey to (re)discover movement... Watch Katy give our SPARK ankle exoskeleton a test drive. She has hemiplegic cerebral palsy and we asked her what it felt like wear our device in assistance mode: "It took some getting used to, but after some practice, I felt like I was walking so much faster. Biomotum's device was literally helping me pick my foot up off the ground which I have never experienced before. I could see this device being an incredible tool for someone who wants to work on their gait or just wants to get around with a little more power to their step and without expending as much energy." The SPARK device is not yet FDA approved but we are excited to share that milestone with you soon! We're excited to see where this research leads and discover more about how people will use our devices to participate in their own communities!
NEW EPISODE: Dr. Collin Bowersock updates us on his CPARF-funded fellowship project, which is testing whether people can use the BIOMOTUM, Inc. SPARK device outside of the laboratory in real-world settings. Dr. Bowersock is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Northern Arizona University who works in the Biomechatronics Lab under the mentorship of Dr. Zach Lerner. Dr. Bowersock is working with a range of people with cerebral palsy to get feedback on the SPARK device and understand how well it meets their needs in their own homes and communities.
