“William James College’s MoCCA Program will accelerate efforts to diversify the behavioral health workforce and lessen disparities in mental health and substance use care,” said Jacquie Anderson, Senior Director of Grantmaking at the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation. “We are pleased to support and invest in this project to create sustainable career pathways for men of color and increase access to culturally responsive behavioral health services across the Commonwealth.”
We are thrilled to announce that William James College has been awarded a $50,000 grant by the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation to support the launch of our Men of Color Career Advancement (MoCCA) Program! This year-long pilot project will help establish a pipeline of professionals of color who can address the mental health and substance use needs of historically marginalized groups in the Commonwealth. Great piece by Lauren Booker about an innovative pilot developed by Boston Medical Center (BMC) and funded through our Special Initiatives grant program. As a grantmaking organization, it's exciting to support collaborative efforts to test new mental health approaches, particularly outside of health care walls. https://lnkd.in/eJtyY_XC

Grateful to everyone we worked with over the last year and a half plus to get this to the finish line, especially Eli Vasquez. There's so much work the Foundation does that can be useful to the many people in Massachusetts who care about our health care system and access for marginalized people. Making sure our website is easier (and more pleasant) to navigate will hopefully help us get the word out about the resources we have to share. I hope you will take a look at our new website and please share with others!
It's the end of the year and we have a present for you....well, maybe it's more for us but we hope you enjoy it too...our new website is live! https://lnkd.in/eNTCzDiW Allowing our partners to continue to apply for grants (with new cycles opening next year), read and download our policy and research reports, and register for our in person and virtual convenings remain key features. But we hope it will also help us tell the story of how we apply each of these mutually reinforcing approaches toward achieving our goals. While you're there, take a peek at our new theory of change--another effort to communicate how we leverage our strategies to ensure equitable access to health care for all of those in the Commonwealth who are economically, racially and culturally or socially marginalized. Please let us know what you think!
