I just returned from Boies Schiller Flexner's annual meeting at the Ritz Carlton in Key Biscayne, where we celebrated the incredible results of 2024 — a year defined by high-stakes matters across industries like aviation, technology, and cybersecurity, and the addition of talented partners and associates who have further strengthened our expertise in critical areas such as antitrust, intellectual property, and white-collar investigations. Reflecting on these past three years, I’m amazed at how far we’ve come since launching the Italian operations of the firm. Yesterday, BSF filed a motion to dismiss a defamation suit against client Matthew Blumberg brought by crypto firm Prometheum. In the filing, partners Jenny Kim and Michael Fay argued that Blumberg's public comments about Prometheum’s operations in the crypto market were opinions on a matter of significant public interest, protected under New York's anti-SLAPP laws.

ICYMI: This week, BSF announced that some associates will receive bonuses of $1 million or more under our unique formula compensation model. Said managing partner and chairman-elect Matthew L. Schwartz, “Yes, you read that right. They earned it, and the firm is happy to pay it.” 2024 has been a successful year for BSF and its clients, with numerous wins at trial and significant settlements on behalf of our clients. Our compensation model ensures associates share in the firm’s accomplishments, creating opportunities to earn well beyond the market rate. More than 95% of associates received a bonus that is at least as high as, and in most cases higher than, what that associate would have earned under the market system. BSF's culture is unique in that the firm gives young lawyers the chance to take on high-level work from the day they arrive. Associates are empowered and emboldened to argue key motions, conduct oral arguments, negotiate settlements, and play important in-court speaking roles at hearings and trials. Schwartz added, "We ask our associates to take on significant responsibilities early in their careers, and we're more than happy to reward them by sharing in the upside of the returns the firm receives as a result." BSF also announced this week that it is offering signing bonuses of $150,000 for lawyers who join from a federal district or appellate clerkship and $175,000 for those with multiple clerkships in their background.

We are thrilled to welcome litigators James Keyte and Enoch Liang to BSF. James, who will join in January as a partner in our New York office, is a seasoned trial attorney with deep experience in sports, mergers, and antitrust law, particularly its impact on the technology sector. He has led high-profile litigation challenges to mergers brought by the DOJ and FTC and has represented major sports organizations, including the NHL, NFL, and the NBA, in complex legal disputes. James is also the director of the Fordham University School of Law Competition Law Institute, an adjunct professor of Comparative Antitrust Law, and the editor of the American Bar Association's Antitrust Magazine. Enoch, who joined as a partner in our San Francisco office, has litigated numerous intellectual property, data privacy, and cross-border disputes. Enoch has represented clients in matters involving patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade dress, trade secrets, and idea theft, as well as in commercial claims dealing with partnership agreements, breach of contract, and consumer class actions.
