The BU Finance & Investment Club held its semester end stock pitch contest last night. Of the 36 pitches that were presented last weekend, the top four got to present last night in front of investment professionals from Fidelity, Adage Capital, Atreides, and MFS. It was a great experience for the students to have to defend their assumptions and be questioned by experienced investment professionals. All of the judges were really impressed with the deep level of analysis that was done on each company. Congratulations to the winner, Dimitri Lykidis, and runner up, Palmer Vogt. Proud professor!!!!

Bringing in the big guns to judge the BUFC stock pitch contest next week.  Students have worked hard all semester analyzing their companies and will be rewarded by presenting in front of seasoned investment professionals.  Looking forward to the event, which will showcase our best and brightest.  

What an evening!!!!! So fortunate to have one of the top hedge fund investors, Bill Ackman, speak to my students and members of the BU Finance & Investment Club. In addition to providing insights into his investing approach, he also gave students great advice around choosing a career. Truly a memorable event for both me and the students in attendance.

The BU Finance & Investment Club was very fortunate to hear from one of the top Fidelity fund managers: Joel Tillinghast. The Fidelity Low Priced Stock Fund that he started and managed is one of the top performing mutual funds of all time. Joel's presentation provided a unique insight into his investing approach and why it was so successful.

Joel Tillinghast, who managed the Fidelity Low Priced Stock Fund for 30 years, will be the next speaker for the BUFC Speaker Series.  Looking forward to hear him discuss his investing approach and keys to his tremendous success managing his fund over the years.

Wanted to thank both Gerald Chertavian and Tim Dibble of Year Up for coming to speak to speak to the BU Finance and Investment Club last night about social entrepreneurship and finance. Amazing discussion about the similarities between running a non-profit and a business. The message about finding your passion in life and pursuing it was powerful.

Big shout out and congratulations to the three students, Elizabeth Ricardo, Camila Ortiz, and Anjali Amin, who participated at the annual Cornell Women in Finance Undergraduate Stock Pitch Showcase. They were selected as one of the winning teams against some of the best undergraduate programs in the country. Huge accomplishment.

The BU Finance & Investment Club pitch contest represented some of the best finance students that I have come across as a finance professor. The investment reports of the four teams that made it to the finals could easily have passed as the work done of someone with two to three years of work experience as a securities analyst. The investment pitches were concise, well thought out, and importantly linked strategy, a company's competitive advantage, with its ROIC: how strategy is manifested in the financial statements. The models and valuation analysis reflected the investment team's view of their company's competitive positioning and the valuation tables clearly identified the important metrics that explained how each company was valued against other companies in the industry. Huge shout out to the firms who sent investment professionals to judge the contest: Fidelity, Putnam, Morgan Stanley, and UBS. Proud professor.
