  • Holiday meals can be a challenge if your child is a picky eater, especially with family and friends offering food or commenting on their choices. Here are some tips to help keep the holiday season positive and stress-free: Set Expectations with Family: Let relatives know ahead of time that your child may decline certain foods. Encourage them to avoid pressuring or making comments about your child's eating habits. Bring Familiar Foods: Pack a few tried-and-true favorites your child loves to ensure they have something to eat. Bonus: This can also ease your stress! Empower Your Child: Teach your child polite ways to decline food, like saying, “No, thank you.” Let them know it’s okay to skip dishes they aren’t comfortable with. Avoid Pressuring or Overexplaining: If comments arise, gently redirect the conversation. For example, “We’re working on expanding tastes at home, and we’re happy with their progress!” The holidays are about enjoyment, so keep mealtimes stress-free, and allow your child to enjoy the food and festivities at their own pace. Follow along for more tips on how to help your family enjoy the holidays this season. 🎁❤️ #PickyEaters #ParentingTips #anxiety #focus #adhd #brainbalancecenters

  • The holiday season brings lots of down time, but it can also lead to an increase in screen time for kids. While some screen time is okay, excessive daily use can cause meltdowns and issues with emotional regulation. Balancing screen time with other activities is key to supporting your child's well-being during the holidays. Here are some tips for parents to manage screen time without removing it entirely: Have a frank discussion beforehand: The week before the holidays, talk to your kids about the break and what it means. Explain why screen time will be limited even though they are not in school and don't have homework. Make screen time something you do together: Instead of your child spending their allotted screentime with their nose buried in individual devices, spend your holiday screen time watching movies together. By setting boundaries and encouraging alternative activities, you can ensure your kids enjoy a healthy, balanced holiday season! • As the holidays approach, finding the right gift for children with learning differences or sensory sensitivities can be tricky. Here are three great gift ideas to consider: 1. Crash Pad Perfect for active kids with ADHD, a crash pad provides a safe space for jumping and rolling, while also offering a soft cushion for calming down. It’s great for building balance and having fun safely. 2. Mini Squigz These suction-cup building pieces are ideal for kids with sensory processing disorders. They’re fun to connect, help develop fine motor skills, and encourage creativity without the pressure of following specific instructions. 3. Warmkins Soft, weighted stuffed animals that can be heated up in the microwave, Warmkins are soothing for children on the autism spectrum. The warmth and weight help with relaxation and provide comfort at bedtime or during stressful moments. Give your child the gift of growth and well-being for a fun and meaningful holiday season! ❤️✨ #BrainBalance #Sensory #Development #Mindfulness #Gifts

  • 🧠 Gratitude and Your Brain: What's the Connection? 🧠 Did you know practicing gratitude daily can rewire your brain for positivity and success? The same brain areas that control emotions and behavior also handle focus and problem-solving. Keeping your brain “happy” with gratitude can spark creativity, boost productivity, and widen your attention span! 🧠 Why Gratitude Works: Negative thoughts drain energy from your brain’s prefrontal cortex, reducing focus and performance. Positive thinking lights up the brain’s reward pathways, boosting serotonin and dopamine—the chemicals that make us feel good! 🧠 How to Practice Gratitude: 📝 Keep a daily gratitude journal. 🎧 Listen to positive affirmations. 🧘 Practice meditation and mindfulness. 💬 Share gratitude with others (e.g., “I’m grateful for your help!”). What are you grateful for this Thanksgiving? Let us know in the comments below! Read more on our blog at https://lnkd.in/ew5ZTnyY. #Gratitude #PositiveThinking #Neuroplasticity #BrainBalance

  • Holiday get-togethers with family and friends can bring a mix of excitement... and stress. We all know it can be a recipe for unsolicited judgments and opinions, disrupted sleep schedules, meltdowns and tantrums ...the list goes on! However, with a little prep, you can help make the experience smoother for everyone—especially your child. Here are a few ways to reduce stress and avoid those tricky moments: Talk to your family ahead of time about your child's needs: A quick chat with your extended family can help them understand what to expect. This way, they can react with patience and empathy if your child starts to get overwhelmed. Communicate any dietary restrictions: If your child follows a special diet to manage behavior or health, let your hosts know in advance. It’s easier for everyone when expectations are clear. Create a "safe space" for your child: Having a quiet corner or room for your child to take a break can make a huge difference. A few minutes of downtime can help them calm down and avoid feeling embarrassed. • It’s not always easy to know when your child may need more than typical classroom support. If your child is consistently struggling, it might be time to explore whether they need an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) or a 504 plan. Here are some signs that your child might benefit from additional accommodations: Ongoing Academic Struggles: Despite your best efforts and the teacher’s support, your child is still falling behind in key subjects. Behavioral Challenges: If your child consistently has difficulty with focus, organization, or emotional regulation, it may be affecting their ability to learn. Frustration and Burnout: If homework consistently leads to frustration or meltdowns, it may signal a need for extra support. Teacher Recommendations: If your child’s teacher suggests more in-depth testing or evaluation, it could be time to explore your options. It’s important to have an open conversation with your child’s teacher and, if needed, request an evaluation to see if a formal IEP or 504 plan is right for your child.❤️🧠 Download our free Brain Balance IEP Guide for Parents in the link here to learn more: https://lnkd.in/g-AR7pWr. #brainbalancecenters #brainbalance #memory #focus #behavior
