Trust isn’t optional—it’s the backbone of every high-performing team. Google’s Project Aristotle didn’t just study teams—it uncovered the truth: without trust, collaboration dies, innovation stalls, and success is a pipe dream. In my latest blog, I dig into what it means to lead with strength, smarts, kindness, and bravery—and why trust is the ultimate game-changer for leaders. BRYANT GROUP (Advancing Great Leadership) reposted this
"I help leaders be brave, smart, strong and kind," I responded as I told my 3-year-old daughter what Momma does at work all day. Any other working parents in the room? 🙌 For the longest time I couldn't quite put my finger on how to explain it to her in a way she would understand. And frankly, it can be difficult to explain to adults too. "I help leaders be brave..." in being authentic and vulnerable, in having the hard conversations (even if we don't want to), in failing forward when it's really scary... "... smart, ..." in using tried-and-true leadership approaches from organizational psychologists and neuroscientists, by prioritizing the "Platinum Rule" (treat others the way they want to be treated), by asking for help when they need it... "... strong and kind" by setting healthy boundaries for healthy cultures and relationships, by caring intentionally and challenging directly, and by adopting a growth mindset that lifts all boats. I think she gets it, and perhaps I now have a better understanding that allows me to come back to the core of what I do. I help leaders be brave, smart, strong and kind. Thank you, Disney Jr. Superkitties, for the relatability for the 3-year-old and the professional coach. Following our recent panel discussion moderated by our CEO Sally Bryant on attracting and retaining talent at the #AHPInternationalConference this month, we want to continue the conversation with insights from one of our panelists, David L. Flood (Intermountain Health). While these are not formal “stay interview” questions, they are practical and personal questions that he has gathered over the years and uses informally with his team. David calls these his “Self-Validated, Unpolished, Imperfect Retention Ponderings,” and they were widely and highly requested by attendees of the session. People are more likely to stay when they feel acknowledged, know they are valued, and feel connected to their leaders and mission. With fair compensation and flexibility as a baseline, he reflects on different questions, five of which we have listed below: 1️⃣ Does my boss, and optimally my boss’s boss, know anything about me personally? 2️⃣ If I needed flexibility or support, would they deliver? 3️⃣ Is there a plan or path for me to grow, and does my boss know what I want? 4️⃣ Do I receive authentic recognition for my accomplishments? 5️⃣ Can I debate constructively with my boss and colleagues? If more than two of these questions can’t be answered affirmatively, your high performer may be at risk of leaving. What are your thoughts? How do you ensure your team members feel supported and valued? Also, IF YOU WOULD LIKE ALL 10 OF DAVID’S QUESTIONS, PLEASE MESSAGE Sally Bryant! #LeadershipDevelopment #EmployeeRetention #TeamPerformance #bryantgrp #runwithscissors #leadership #executivesearch #moxie

We're honored to share an inspiring story from our Wendy C. Wright, our Project Coordinator, who joined Bryant Group three years ago with a vision to create positive change. Her journey—from U.S. Army service to museum leadership to Bryant Group—reflects resilience, courage, and commitment to growth. Here’s to more shared milestones and purposeful leadership together!
Three years ago today, I started my new, exciting, first remote job. Three weeks before that, the CEO & President called me after seeing my resume. She thought that since I had worked for US Army generals that I could probably handle her. It was a Friday when she called me and I was sick as a dog with barely any voice left. She set up a Zoom interview for the following week. A test and a second interview later, I was hired as the new Project Coordinator for BRYANT GROUP (Advancing Great Leadership). I had just checked off my first goal in my Five Year Plan. After my husband died in a military training accident, I left the US Army to raise our young son. I moved to a small town to be close to my sister while I grieved and healed. In 2019, I was hired to run the county history museum. Being a musuem director had been my dream job ever since I graduated with my BA in History. By my second year as the director, it was no longer my dream job. In two years, I finished the remodeling project that was years past it's completion date; I created temporary exhibits to rotate the artifacts in storage; I fought with the insurance company when the roof was damaged in an ice storm; I partnered with a Big 12 university to get the museum's first graduate intern; I wrote grants and received funding; and I dreamt up and executed a Wild West themed gala that people still reminisce about. When Hotel Occupancy Taxes funding dried up and we could no longer pay for yardwork, I mowed, pulled weeks and raked leaves. I literally put my blood, sweat and tears in that museum. I was exhausted and felt unappreciated. When COVID hit, I held an emergency meeting with the board to explain how financially negative it was going to affect the museum. They looked at me like I was the idiot in the room and told me I was overreacting. Days later, I shut the museum doors as mandated by the government. While so many suffered during COVID, it was the match that lit a fire inside me to make big changes in my life. In March 2021, I wrote down my Five Year Plan to better my and my son’s life. Each year was marked with major milestones to accomplish. Joining BRYANT GROUP (Advancing Great Leadership) was my first milestone: find a new job and move. Three years later, I have accomplished four of my five milestones. Sally Bryant, thank you for seeing my potential and pursuing me. I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew nothing about the advancement/development field, but I hit the ground running, trying to soak up as much as I could. I love that about my job, I learn new things about our field all the time. I also love working with the team. They inspire me to give BRYANT GROUP (Advancing Great Leadership) my best in all that I do. Through these last three years, there have been ups and downs, fun times and not-so-fun times. But through it all, I have always felt privileged to be here. Joining BRYANT GROUP (Advancing Great Leadership) was one of the best decisions I’ve made.
