On day three of our annual Retreat in Martha's Vineyard, we hosted a Wellness Brunch. We focused on redefining the role of women in the workforce. The discussion was led by Aseanté Renee, LMSW. The discussions emphasized recognizing value beyond mere labor, fostering empowerment, and redefining success. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making this event a success. The second day of our retreat included two tracks of programming for our members who are GPs or Pre-GPs. Katie Rae and Phin Barnes impressed upon attendees to continue believing in their thesis’, stay true to their north star and think long-term over decades not years, and the right partners and LPs will ultimately emerge. Valerie Mosley, CFA and Ricki Fairley taught members how critical it is to share their truth, regardless of how painful it may be, by sharing their own stories of childhood abuse and metastatic breast cancer diagnosis and survival. At that moment we learned from three of our members that they survived or were currently suffering from breast cancer. It was a powerful moment of solidarity and healing for everyone in the room. We thank them for their courage in sharing their truth The day ended with a cocktail-making class led by Kevin Gough at Pronghorn. Day one of the Black Women in Venture Capital Retreat was nothing short of vibrant and exhilarating. Even though the rain tried to dampen our spirits, we embraced it and carried on with our plans, ensuring that the weather didn’t stand in the way of an incredible evening filled with new friendships and unforgettable moments. We were thrilled to have a fantastic turnout of 85 members, which truly made the event special. The day kicked off with a warm welcome reception where guests were greeted with delightful swag bags and treated to cocktails and appetizers. This cozy setting was the perfect backdrop for networking and forging new relationships. Our welcome remarks shone a light on our wonderful sponsors, setting a positive and enthusiastic tone for the event. Saysh co-founder Wes Felix highlighted how his sister, Allyson Felix, fought successfully for Nike to pay female athletes during pregnancy and childbirth. Attendees were delighted with a surprise gift of free shoes, and Saysh's support has been a wonderful boost for the community, thanks to their focus on designing sneakers that fit women's feet perfectly. We look forward to the coming days and are excited for the experiences and connections that await us!
