  • Sáttítla is a place of profound cultural, ecological, and spiritual importance to the Pit River Tribe. For generations, Tribal peoples and the local community have turned to these sacred lands for healing and connection. As conservation partners, we stand with the Pit River Tribe in urging President Biden to protect these ancestral lands by designating Sáttítla National Monument before the end of his term. Protecting Sáttítla is about more than safeguarding the land. It’s about honoring identity, heritage, and the sacred places that sustain us all. • 👏Thank you Congressman Raul Ruiz, MD  and Vet Voice Foundation CEO Janessa Goldbeck for calling on President Biden to designate the proposed Chuckwalla National Monument in the CA Desert! Their just published joint opinion piece highlights the benefits to veterans of protecting public lands: “Through our experiences as a physician and member of Congress, or as a Marine Corps Combat Engineer Officer and Veteran and Uniform Victim Advocate, we have seen the vital role public lands play in the health and wellness of veterans and military families time and again. That is why we are working together to see the proposed Chuckwalla National Monument become a reality.” Check out the article here: https://bit.ly/4fogNXm Photo by Bob Wick #ProtectChuckwalla

"Furthermore, the designation of Chuckwalla National Monument will safeguard sacred sites of profound spiritual significance to Indigenous tribes. These sites are essential for preserving their cultural heritage, especially considering the numerous tribes seeking involvement in the region's future endeavors." The proposed Chuckwalla National Monument represents so much more than conservation—it’s about honoring cultural heritage, protecting sacred lands, and ensuring these spaces remain accessible for future generations. Rooted in both history and community well-being, Chuckwalla stands as a vital investment in the health of our people and our planet. • We want to take a moment to thank the USDA and the Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region for hosting the recent listening session on the proposed Sáttítla National Monument. This important proposal, introduced by Senator Alex Padilla, seeks to establish a 206,000-acre national monument across the Shasta-Trinity, Klamath, and Modoc National Forests. The proposal aims to protect and conserve lands that are rich in wildlife, scenic beauty, cultural significance, and recreational opportunities. It is a critical step toward preserving these lands for future generations, and we appreciate the opportunity to engage in this vital conversation.
