🌍 Recap of the 2nd Consortium Meeting: Advancing Carbon Farming in the Mediterranean Region The 2nd Consortium Meeting of the Carbon Farming Med Project occurred from November 25th to 27th, 2025, in beautiful Abruzzo, Italy. This gathering brought together all project partners to discuss and advance shared goals for sustainable carbon farming in the Mediterranean region. Key Highlights: – Work done so far & planning next steps: We reviewed progress, assessed completed tasks across various work packages, and outlined the next steps. – Engaging discussions: In addition to the consortium work, our program included a variety of presentations, such as one on the synergy between custodian farmers and soil ecological functionality. We also heard from our Italian and Spanish pilot farms, who shared insights into their work, region-specific challenges, solutions, and more, fostering valuable knowledge exchange. Presentations on the biodiversity of Majella Park and the cultural landscape of the Cinque Terre vineyard further enriched the discussions. – Excursion to experimental sites: A visit to Fattoria Di Vaira in Abruzzo provided firsthand insights into field-based research and carbon farming techniques. – Networking between project partners: The meeting offered an excellent opportunity to strengthen relationships and foster collaboration—all in true Italian style, accompanied by amazing food! This meeting highlighted the significant progress achieved so far and reaffirmed our commitment to advancing sustainable agricultural practices across the Mediterranean. Thank you to the organizing committee, especially CREA Ricerca, for organizing this event, and to Biocantina de Orsogna for providing the venue and hosting us. And of course, thank you to the consortium for sharing your valuable contributions in creating a collaborative effort to address climate change through carbon farming. 🫒 🍇 From olives and grapes to cereals and livestock, #Mediterranean agri-food systems are vital to our way of life. But with climate change and land degradation posing serious challenges, it's time to rethink how we grow and sustain our food. The Carbon Farming MED, CLEPSYDRA Project and OliveOilMedNet projects are leading the way by promoting regenerative practices, water conservation and innovative monitoring systems. Carlos Alberto Torres Guerrero (BETA Technological Center) representing the Carbon Farming MED Project, Vasileios Siomadis (Preveza Chamber) for OliveOilMedNet and Jose Luis Garcia (IGME-CSIC) from CLEPSYDRA Project explain the scope of their thematic projects. Advancing Soil Sampling Methodology: Italy Field Trip Milestone 🌍 At the end of October, teams from BETA Technological Center (Spain) and CREA Ricerca (Italy) gathered in Italy for a productive collaboration, marking a significant step forward in the Carbon Farming Mediterranean project. The focus of the trip was to refine and standardize soil sampling methodologies, which are crucial for accurately estimating soil parameters needed for future carbon removal measurements. By applying these techniques at experimental sites, the teams gained valuable hands-on experience that will ensure greater consistency and precision in data collection for the project’s ongoing efforts. This collaborative exchange is a key milestone toward achieving the project's objectives in sustainable agriculture and carbon farming. #SoilSampling #FieldWork #Collaboration #carbonfarming #interregMED #carboncredits #soilhealth #regenerativeagriculture #biodiversity #regenerativepractices #mediterranean

🌿 Introducing the Carbon Farming MED Project! The Mediterranean faces critical challenges like soil degradation, biodiversity loss, and climate change. Supported by Interreg Euro-MED, our project focuses on advancing carbon farming to tackle these issues. 🌱 We promote regenerative agriculture practices to reduce carbon emissions, improve soil health, and restore biodiversity. Our cross-border platform will support these practices and facilitate carbon credit generation and management. By equipping farmers with the tools and resources to adopt carbon farming, we aim to create a sustainable and profitable business model, opening up new income and funding opportunities. Join us in paving the way for a sustainable future in Mediterranean agriculture! 🌍 #CarbonFarming #InterregMED #CarbonCredits #SoilHealth #RegenerativeAgriculture #Biodiversity #Sustainability #Mediterranean Azolla Projects BETA Technological Center CENER 21 - Center for Energy, Environment and Resources European Agroforestry Federation (EURAF) Institute for Health and Environment CREA Ricerca Eurorégion Pyrénées Méditerranée - Euroregió Pirineus Mediterrània
