We’re thrilled to see the introduction of the Carbon Dioxide Removal Investment Act, a bipartisan effort led by Senators Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and Lisa Murkowski for U.S. Senate (R-Alaska) to support the growing carbon removal industry. 🌍 This critical update to the tax code recognizes the diversity of innovative technologies — like Ebb Carbon's — that are designed to permanently remove carbon pollution from the atmosphere. By expanding access to tax incentives, this bill can help unlock climate solutions and economic growth.

Today, we were proud to work with U.S. Senators Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) to introduce important bipartisan legislation to stimulate the carbon removal market in the United States. The Carbon Dioxide Removal Investment Act would update existing tax code to right-size it to the current industry, where innovative American companies are using a variety of methods to permanently remove carbon dioxide pollution. Currently, too many carbon removal companies are unable to access tax incentives because their specific technology is not reflected in the tax code. That's why lawmakers and businesses across the United States are calling for this critical update to support the full spectrum of carbon removal tools in our toolbox. “This tax credit for carbon removal will allow innovative American companies working to permanently remove carbon pollution from our atmosphere to access critical incentives that can power their work — in turn unlocking climate benefits, economic growth, and in-demand jobs across the country,” said CRA Executive Director Giana Amador on the bill’s introduction. We’re so grateful to Senators Bennet and Murkowski and all of our partners who helped make this happen. Let’s do this! https://lnkd.in/efWV6jfV

We love to see bipartisan support for carbon removal!   "Climeworks commends U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and Lisa Murkowski for their leadership on the Carbon Dioxide Removal Investment Act. Last year, Climeworks was honored to host the Senators as part of a bipartisan delegation to our direct air capture facilities in Iceland. The CDR Investment Act would drive even more investment in the US to deploy the next generation of CDR projects and supercharge American leadership in carbon management," said Andrew Fishbein, Climeworks’ Lead Government Affairs North America. https://lnkd.in/g7qXnWHw

What we know: Scaling carbon removal is absolutely essential to combat the devastation promised by current climate models. The United States and the U.N. call for gigatons of removals to meet their climate goals, and it is our imperative to do everything we can to get us there. What we also know: Scaling carbon removal requires a level playing field where everyone is held to the same standards, and poor credits are removed from the market entirely. Policymakers can strengthen the current market by setting clear guidelines for monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV), which can inform government investment and private market purchases. Our new MRV policy report provides a critical roadmap to guide the industry through its next phase of growth and into the gigaton scale. Read our full report ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gf3_XzYP

Three words will help shape the next phase of the carbon removal market scale-up: Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV). For buyers, innovators, and those just trying to understand the climate benefit of carbon removal, establishing clear and consistent quality measures through MRV policy is critical. Our new policy roadmap charts a course for the U.S. government to help scale the industry, bring down prices per ton, and ensure that all carbon removal efforts are helping us meet our climate goals. "Carbon removal buyers want a transparent market that they can understand," said Executive Director of the Carbon Removal Alliance, Giana Amador. "The federal government should establish clear and consistent MRV standards to bolster competitiveness and trust in this critical industry. This is a crucial step for the continued growth of the carbon removal market.” Read the full policy report: https://lnkd.in/gf3_XzYP

The ocean is the world’s greatest carbon sink, and by accelerating natural processes and modernizing regulations, we can deepen the well. Our newest policy memo outlines key changes needed to federal regulation to better empower marine carbon removal companies to find innovative ways to make the ocean our fiercest climate ally. “Marine carbon removal can help us reach our climate goals, provide jobs and other benefits to communities, and help cement the U.S. as a world leader in the carbon removal space.” — Giana Amador, Executive Director of the Carbon Removal Alliance Read the full policy memo ➡ https://lnkd.in/euqj9nba

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced today that it will grant $100 million across 20 possible awards to applicants working with novel forms of carbon removal. Among CDR strategies, direct air capture has received the brunt of attention, but research suggests that lower-tech pathways might have a larger role to play in large-scale carbon removal. This latest FOA from the DOE reflects a shifting focus toward non-DAC technologies. Giana Amador, executive director of the Carbon Removal Alliance, said funding such pathways is critical "because many carbon removal companies struggle to raise capital for first-of-a-kind projects."
