Hey SaaS product teams,
Stop making your customers log in every time they go to your marketing homepage. No one remembers your app’s subdomain. Is it an app or dashboard or something else? I spent a few minutes looking at some well-known websites and did a quick review of the quality of their login experience.
🤮 F - Services that, when you click Login on their homepage, make you log in again even if you were already logged in.
Bank of America, Chase
🤕 D - Services that don’t provide a one-click login button on their homepage. You have to click some kind of popup or find it in the footer
Allstate Benefits, and many a government site
🤨 C - Services that, when you click login, it takes you to the app. Trouble is, you aren’t always sure if you will have to login again or not until you click it.
Intuit TurboTax (Mint used to be in the F category for awhile), Amazon Web Services (AWS), Rocket Money, Datadog, Brex, Statsig, Rippling
🙂 B - Services that just say “Go to app” when you’re logged in already.
HubSpot, CircleCI, Stripe
😃 A-minus - Services that redirect you straight into the app. However, they skip the marketing pages. What if I want to view the pricing page and figure out what features I am missing? How do I do that?
GitHub, Notion, Mintlify, Sentry
🎉 A+ - Services that show me my username so I have confidence I am logged in already, but also allow me to use the marketing page.
Cargado (we’re not going to make a post like this if we don’t have an A+ 😉 ),
Crowdin, Slack
