CT's nonprofit art museum bus bridging inequities in education & arts access

About us

cARTie is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization bridging inequities in education and arts access across Connecticut, and bringing the museum field trip to schools and students directly. It reimagines the museum concept, deconstructs traditional models, and is committed to making sure Connecticut's diverse children feel represented and empowered. To this end, cARTie offers inclusive internship and exhibition opportunities to a diverse population of high school art students and provides critical museum-based learning opportunities that enrich and deepen early education and SEL, while meeting ELDS, NCCAS, and CCSS, to PreK-2 students who otherwise may not have access to robust arts programming.

  • For all of you #EmotionScientists out there, we’d love to invite you to study some recent student feedback with us 📊 Since the start of this school year, we’ve been asking the students we serve how they feel about coming aboard. Here are some closeups from our analysis thus far, following the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence’s RULER Approach and coaching we’ve received from Zorana Ivcevic Pringle. We can’t wait to scaffold upon our visits and get back to our school partners soon for more art museum enrichment this year! • Wondering what principals have to say about our program offerings? Here’s a glimpse… “cARTie is one of those special programs a school can bring to its students and teachers that truly enriches all stakeholders’ experience beyond the traditional teaching and learning in a classroom. Through an amazing artistic integration of all the best things of arts standards, cARTie provides a refreshingly different and brightly valuable lesson for students!” ~Partner Principal [Image Description: Purple text reads “cARTie is one of those special programs a school can bring to its students and teachers that truly enriches all stakeholders’ experience beyond the traditional teaching and learning in a classroom. • This is exactly how we want all of the students we serve to feel 🙌 After spending time getting to know the art and emerging student-artists featured in our 2024-2025 Juried Student Art Exhibition, Emotion in Art, last week, one younger student we served felt so inspired that he shared: “next time cARTie comes, I’m going to have all of my paintings ready” ~Jeremiah. Want to help us embolden more students like Jeremiah? Learn more about open roles and opportunities at www.cARTie.org. • There sure are a lot of emotions in the air… In the spirit of this year’s juried art exhibition focused on emotions in art, students, teachers, and cARTie community members have been sharing how they feel aboard and leaving their mark. Here’s a sneak peek at some feeling shared so far… [Image Description: Colorful messages are overlapped on the back wall inside cARTie’s art museum bus that show feelings of peace, gratitude, happiness, and kindness.] #cARTieInspired #cARTieMatters #emotionsinart

  • We can’t emphasize how important it is to document students’ thinking and support collaborative explorations enough… Here’s a snapshot from one of our “drawing discussions” in action. Some notable details: ✏️ Practicing proper grip with homemade #cARTieCrayons. 🅰️ Engaging in letter recognition. 😍 Studying different feelings and emotions. 👥 Working and playing side-by-side. ☺️ Getting comfortable exercising critical and creative thinking in an art museum environment. [Image Description: A student holds a homemade crayon and explores different marks on a large, collaborative sheet of paper with notes and drawings of different emotions.] #cARTieInspired #cARTieMatters #earlychildhood #museumeducation
