Yesterday I had the privilege of attending the YWCA Conversations: Empowering Voices at the Intersection of Race, Class, and Gender. This event included a thought-provoking panel discussion where panelists highlighted critical issues facing Georgia- affordable and equitable access to healthcare, housing, and workforce development. I served as a table facilitator and had the opportunity to guide discussions in response to each panelists' insights. The discussions were engaging, with diverse participants sharing their perspectives including a 17-year old high school senior and 2 international students! Here are a few key take-aways: ⭐ Intersectionality matters: the intersection of race, class, and gender absolutely impacts individuals' experiences and access to resources ⭐ Healthcare access: addressing healthcare access disparities is essential for building healthier communities ⭐ Housing affordability: affordable housing is a fundamental right that needs urgent attention ⭐ Youth engagement: the presence of younger voices was a reminder of the importance of engaging youth in these conversations ⭐ Civic engagement: political discussions can be challenging, but they are crucial for building an informed community; embrace curiosity, practice patience, and vote I left the event feeling inspired by the collective commitment to address these important issues within our community.
