📍How can we better support women's reproductive choices in Senegal? 🤔 Our latest project focuses on designing non-hormonal contraceptives tailored for women in Senegal. ➡️ Here are some key insights: 🔘 Return to Fertility: Women expressed the need for contraceptives that allow them to regain fertility quickly after discontinuation. This is essential for their reproductive autonomy. 🔘 Efficacy Matters: The effectiveness of a contraceptive is paramount; women want reliable methods that prevent unexpected pregnancies without compromising their health. 🔘 Natural Alternatives: Many women prefer non-hormonal options due to concerns about side effects from traditional hormonal methods. They seek reassurance from natural ingredients. Collaborating with Catapult Design, we aim to turn these insights into real solutions that empower women. What are your thoughts on enhancing contraceptive options? Let’s discuss how we can innovate together!👇🏾 #UXResearch #Designthinking #WomenEmpowerment #HealthInnovation

We had the opportunity to travel to Seattle to present our research and findings from "Beyond One Size Fits All: Designing the Future of Non-Hormonal Contraceptives for Women," a multi-year project dedicated to amplifying women’s voices in creating accessible, effective contraceptive solutions. We appreciate the support of Tracy Johnson and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in bringing this research to life. This work has helped ensure women's voices inform the future of contraceptive design. More insights and data from this project will be released in the coming months

Women’s health innovations are so crucial to the future well-being of women and all communities. Gender Equality Design Labs is a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation project to take a human-centered approach to test hypotheses and establish a mechanism for regular feedback with communities of women in Africa. We kicked off with our design team in Nigeria earlier in the summer, collecting primary design data, identifying emergent findings, gleaning insights, and recommending opportunity areas.

Localization. It's a fundamental philosophy that guides our work in creating social impact. Our local partners are not just stakeholders nor implementing partners; they are co-creators who play a critical role in every stage of the design process. Our CEO Angela Hariche shares what we have learned–and intend to continue learning–about localizing design.
Good design is inherently local. And it needs work.

Our partnership with the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) was formed in 2021. Its purpose is to help young graduates who have been trained in applying design as a tool for transformative change find opportunity in working with experienced designers as they begin their careers. We're excited to celebrate our inaugural Fellow, Haleemah Sadiah, now a Senior Designer at Catapult Design, and welcome Simran Monga as our new Fellow! We look forward to our continued partnership and working alongside her and future graduates of the SCAD Design for Sustainability program. Thank you, Scott Boylston!

We believe in the power of community-led progress in global development. In our "Indigenizing Design" project with partners Indigenous Community Collaborative, Brian Skeet Design LLC, Cahokia PHX, and the National Endowment for the Arts, the team integrated Indigenous perspectives into our design processes. This inclusion helps to ensure that solutions are culturally relevant, sustainable, and driven by those who understand their communities best. Community-led progress is vital because it helps to ensure that development initiatives are deeply rooted in local needs and contexts. This approach not only fosters ownership and pride among community members, but it also leads to more sustainable and long-lasting impacts. When communities are at the forefront, solutions are more likely to become innovative and resilient, addressing both current challenges and future uncertainties.
