🚨 CEI Working Group Update 🚨 We’re thrilled to share that the CEI Working Group held the last online meeting of the year to align on our priorities and activities! We were excited to gather again to discuss our recent milestones including the launch of our Call to Action.  As we wrap up 2024, we are energised by the discussions and excited for what’s coming in 2025! 🌍 Strengthening Europe's Health Workforce for Resilient Healthcare Systems 🌍 The 2024 edition of Health at a Glance: Europe highlights an urgent reality: the EU faces a shortage of 1.2 million doctors, nurses, and midwives. This crisis, intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic, stems from an ageing population, increased prevalence of chronic diseases, and constant pressure on Healthcare Workforce and systems. The dual demographic challenge—growing healthcare demand alongside a retiring workforce—requires immediate policy action. The report highlights the need to invest in: 🔹 Expanding education and training opportunities for healthcare workers 🔹 Improving working conditions and remuneration to retain talent 🔹 Leveraging technologies such as AI to boost productivity and streamline care The report emphasises the transformative potential of innovation to alleviate workforce pressures and improve care quality. However, unlocking these benefits requires investment in digital literacy, reskilling healthcare workers, and strengthening data infrastructure. This is exactly the purpose of our Working Group on Capacity-Enhancing Innovation ! We are continuously advocating for EU policymakers to act urgently to tackle the growing crisis face by our healthcare workforce. In our Call to Action we present ten policy recommendations highlighting manner to tackle workforce shortages through innovation and integrated planning. 💡 A resilient healthcare workforce is not just a cornerstone of robust health systems but also essential for the EU’s economic recovery and global competitiveness. The time to act is now. Time for Action: Addressing Healthcare Workforce Challenges Through Innovation!     For #WorldPatientSafetyDay, the CEI Working Group has crafted a crucial Call to Action for EU policymakers, addressing the urgent need to tackle healthcare workforce shortages through innovation. Our healthcare systems face mounting pressures from an aging population, constrained budgets, and recent pandemics.    💡 Why Innovation Matters: Capacity-enhancing innovations, from new technologies to optimise care pathways, can improve patient safety, healthcare systems efficiency, and overall system resilience.    🔧 The CEI WG proposes 10 recommendations to address the healthcare workforce crisis. They highlight the need to: - Develop a comprehensive healthcare workforce strategy incorporating the use of capacity enhancing health technology innovation. - Mobilise public funding and public-private partnerships to advance innovative health technologies. - Create EU efficiency indicators to measure and enhance healthcare standards. - Adapt regulatory and funding systems to speed up the implementation of capacity-enhancing health technologies.    We need your voice to make this happen!
