The future of ports on the Great Lakes is electric! Federal funding is helping port authorities deploy zero-emission drayage and freight equipment to lower costs and slash pollution. Learn more via the new CHARGE issue brief with @AtlasPolicy
With access to two major shipping routes, #Ohio plays a large role in maritime shipping. A 2018 report found that shipping along the Ohio River was linked to over 37,000 direct, induced, and indirect jobs and $26.5 billion in economic activity for the state. At the same time, they are also sources of greenhouse gas emissions and other air pollutants. Backed by $126 million in federal and state grants, the Port of Cleveland is working to electrify some of its operations. This brief by Stephen Naimoli and Katherine Shok, supported by the CHARGE Coalition, explores electrification initiatives to reduce port emissions and identify the challenges ahead in ensuring ports can power the economy, without a cost to communities and the environment. https://lnkd.in/etvqMdpt
