Ever get a request in your HR career so inefficient it made you stop and think… there’s no way this is real? Here are a couple that we’ve heard so far: 👉 "Our private equity firm requires a ton of workforce data every six months—turnover, tenure, engagement scores, gender/race breakdowns… totally reasonable. Except we have no HRIS for 1,000+ employees. So twice a year, we spend weeks manually gathering data in spreadsheets. Absolute nightmare." 👉 "At a big media company, every HR manager had to manually type up a monthly report on raises, new hires, and salary changes—data we could literally pull from our HRIS in seconds. When I asked why, the corporate controller laughed and said it was a 'babysitting report'—so we'd really feel the numbers. It finally got scrapped… years after I left." Honestly, these barely scratch the surface. So, what's the most absurd manual HR task you've been handed?
