About us
Communities In Schools®(CIS™) is a national organization operating in more than 2,900 schools nationwide that ensures every student – regardless of race, zip code, or socioeconomic background – has what they need to realize their potential in school and beyond. CIS connects students to caring adults and community resources that help them see, confront, and overcome the barriers that stand between them and a brighter future. Communities In Schools of Charlotte-Mecklenburg (CIS-Charlotte) is an affiliate of the national organization, working locally inside 50+ Charlotte-Mecklenburg (CMS) schools. Together, with our CIS affiliates across the country, we are creating a powerful change movement made up of peers, students, and alumni committed to building an equitable path to education for future generations. OUR MISSION is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. WE ENVISION a community where every child and family thrives and is positioned for positive economic mobility. WE BELIEVE that transformative relationships are key to unlocking a student’s potential. We will succeed by including in our strategies, ingraining in our culture, and reflecting in our behaviors, principles and practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a result, we break down immediate and systemic barriers to create and sustain equitable outcomes.

We often remind our students that being present matters: there's no substitute for showing up—in person, in school, and in life. Your donation allows CIS to be there for our students, to ensure they have the critical support and resources they need to be present in school and ready to learn. Your year-end gift will create lasting change by empowering students to overcome barriers, achieve their goals, and take charge of their future. THANK YOU for continuing to be present with CIS and our students, now and into the new year! cischarlotte.org/donate #BeingPresentMatters #BuildingBrightFutures #givingseasonclt

Shout-out to our #TRiO team at WEST MECKLENBURG HIGH SCHOOL for holding this awesome holiday party for our students and former CIS students (Alumni!), too! 💯❤️ #spreadingthejoy #happyholidays
Last night, the Communities In Schools of Charlotte Mecklenburg, Inc & TRiO team at WEST MECKLENBURG HIGH SCHOOL hosted our annual holiday celebration for the students and families we serve. This event is one of the highlights of our year—a chance to spread extra joy and bring our community closer together during the holiday season. I’m so grateful for our incredible team and the dedicated staff at West Meck who made this night possible. Moments like these remind us of the power of connection and the impact we can have when we come together.

You know it’s a #FantasticFriday when you can share about the AMAZING volunteer elves from Bank of America ‘s CFO Group who “shopped til they dropped” at #TargetMidtown recently - to fulfill the holiday “Wish Lists” of 101 CIS students at Reid Park Academy ! Yes, that’s right - 101 students will be surprised and so excited next week when these special elves come to Reid Park to distribute all of the toys, games, clothing and more on these students’ wish lists.😍 CIS is so grateful to these BofA “elves” for their generosity—and their enthusiasm throughout every moment of this project. Not to mention they have been joyfully supporting this project for more than 20 years! On behalf of the students and families at Reid Park and all of us at CIS, THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts! 💝🎁🎄 #communitiesinschools #cis #cischarlotte #GivingSeasonCLT #bofaelves #hohoho

We had great fun today surprising CIS student Kylee at Bruns Avenue Elementary School with her framed artwork, a set of printed holiday cards, and a thank-you gift from Communities In Schools! Kylee is the artist of our Holiday card this year. 😍 With a donation to CIS, if you choose, we will send Kylee’s adorable card on your behalf, in honor or in memory of family/friends to notify them of your gift to CIS. But don’t delay! - tomorrow (Friday, Dec. 13) is the deadline to request tribute cards (for timely holiday delivery) Your year-end gift to CIS, whether sending cards or not, will help place Site Coordinators in CMS Title I schools. We provide critical support, resources, and opportunities for students to thrive and achieve their potential. Your gift will help transform young lives for the better and create lasting change. 💝 A HUGE “thank you” to Kylee for sharing her artwork, and to all who believe in our mission and support our work! We'd love for you to meet Kylee, the artist of our Holiday Card! Kylee is a CIS student in the 5th grade at Bruns Avenue Elementary School. She and her younger brother are both in CIS and love their Site Coordinator, Mrs. Karen Neal. When asked to use one word to describe Mrs. Neal, Kylee immediately said, "caring." Aside from art, Kylee’s favorite subject in school is math. She also enjoys participating in the Heart of Charlotte Optimist Club’s mentoring group (in partnership with CIS) and the Girls On the Run club. We love Kylee's snowman artwork and we’re thrilled to share it with you this holiday season! Kylee's cards are available to send as tribute cards (in honor or in memory of family and friends) when you make a donation to CIS). But don't delay - if you'd like us to send cards on your behalf, we need to have your donation and request for cards by Thursday, Dec. 12. However, all gifts are needed and appreciated at any time, whether you choose to send tribute cards or not.... THANK YOU for helping to ensure bright futures for students like Kylee with your gift during this Season of Giving. 💝 Make a Gift and/or send tribute cards: https://lnkd.in/enWbFfgW #CommunitiesInSchools #CIS #CISCharlotte #GivingSeasonCLT #donate
