A suburb of the greater Kansas City metropolitan area, Overland Park was incorporated as a first-class city May 20, 1960 with a population of 28,085. Since then, the nationally recognized city has grown to more than 187,000 residents, making it the second most populous city in Kansas and metropolitan Kansas City. Overland Park has been named to numerous lists of "best cities," including the best cities to live, best best cities to find a job, best place to raise children, best city in which to retire, and best suburbs for millennials, among others.   • As the blizzard continues to impact Overland Park, we’re taking steps to keep everyone safe tomorrow, Monday, Jan. 6. We appreciate your patience and encourage everyone to stay safe at home if you can! Here's what you need to know: • City facilities including City Hall, Myron E.   • Our snow plow crews are working hard on this game day! Friendly reminder that while the snow is still falling... we're still working on it. It typically takes 24-48 hours to plow all 2,200 lane miles of OP streets after the snow and ice stop falling.   • A winter storm warning is in effect in Overland Park. The City following modified operations for the safety of the community and City staff. The following City facilities will close at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 4, and will be closed on Sunday, January 5. -Matt Ross Community Center -Tomahawk Ridge Community Center -Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens and LongHouse Visitor Center -St. Andrews Golf Club -Sykes/Lady Overland Park Golf Club -Scheels Overland Park Soccer Complex We're continuing to treat and plow streets today as well.

  • Overland Park is proud to be the top local government team in WAY TO GO KC’s 16th Annual Green Commute Challenge! 🚲🌱 Throughout October, our staff embraced sustainable transportation—walking, biking, carpooling and more. Together, metro-area participants logged over 7,000 green commute trips, saving $6,000 in gas and preventing 7.8 tons of carbon emissions.
