All City of Kannapolis offices will be closed from Tuesday, December 24 - Thursday, December 26, in observance of the Christmas Holiday. There will be no garbage or recycling collection service on Wednesday, December 25. Garbage and recycling collection will operate on a one-day delay with Wednesday’s route collected on Thursday and so forth for the rest of the week. There will be no yard waste, limb or loose-leaf collection Tuesday, December 24 -Thursday, December 26.

As you have family and friends over to enjoy the holidays, it is important to remember to only park cars on one side of the street and always leave enough room for emergency vehicles. 🚒🚓🚑 Narrow roadways with vehicles parked on both sides of the street significantly slows down how quickly police, fire and EMS crews can respond to emergencies. Be sure to leave at least 10 feet of roadway to allow movement of emergency vehicles. We wish you a happy and safe holiday season!

Sign up for beginner Shag Dancing lessons at the Swanee! 💃🕺 This four-week class covers the basics of shag dancing. Each week you will learn something new. Lessons are $50 for all four classes. Each class is one hour long with the option of staying afterwards for open shag dancing. This year the City of Kannapolis is celebrating its 40th year of incorporation. To commemorate this occasion and the history of the Police Department, several police staff members designed a new uniform patch. This patch includes elements from previous department patches that were worn over the last 40 years. This new patch will be worn by the department’s Honor Guard. Congratulatons to Lt. Christopher Fisher who has been promoted to the rank of Captain and Sgt. Travis Kiser who has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with the Kannapolis Police Department. Both are natives of Cabarrus County and have over fifteen years of service with the Kannapolis Police Department. Christopher will oversee Special Operations of the department. Kannapolis City Clerk, Bridgette Bell, is retiring after serving the City for 37 years. Bridgette has worked with six Mayors, 26 City Council members and four City Managers. She has recorded the minutes of over 1,700 city council meetings. The City recently celebrated its 40th birthday of incorporation and Bridgette has been with the City for almost the entirety of the City’s lifespan. In the early years, there were few city employees and Bridgette wore many hats including finance, payroll, reconciling bank statements, entering water and sewer receipts and maintaining all the City Council, Board of Adjustment, and Planning and Zoning meeting agendas and minutes. Three decades later Bridgette attends every City Council meeting, preparing the agendas and recording the minutes. She coordinates calendars for City Council members, handles public records requests, fields calls from the public and much more. Additionally, she handles updates to City ordinances, tracks City Council resolutions and signing of contracts and official documents. “Bridgette has been an integral part of Kannapolis for 37 years. She has touched nearly every important document we have generated as a City since our incorporation in 1984. Bridgette has recorded the minutes of 1,700 council meetings and witnessed many historical moments and milestones as we evolved as City. She will be greatly missed but her retirement is much deserved, and we wish her the very best in this new chapter in her life,” Kannapolis City Manager Mike Legg commented. Kannapolis residents who completed the Kannapolis 101 Academy were recently recognized by the Kannapolis City Council. The residents completed the eight-week program this fall. The academy included visiting city departments, meeting staff and getting a behind the scenes look at the services and function of the City.
