Mayor Monroe Nichols has announced Krystal Reyes will serve as the City of Tulsa’s Deputy Mayor beginning Feb. 10, 2025. As Deputy Mayor, Reyes will oversee education, youth, and resilience initiatives on behalf of the Nichols Administration. Reyes will also be tasked with helping establish and manage the City’s first Office of Children, Youth, and Families - a critical part of Mayor Nichols’ effort to embed a dedicated function of government into City services to meet the needs of youth, families, and students in Tulsa. Reyes, who currently serves as the City’s Chief Resilience Officer for the Mayor’s Office of Resilience and Equity (MORE), will continue to oversee MORE and be involved in the hiring of a new Chief Resilience Officer. Prior to her time in Tulsa, Reyes served in various policy and leadership roles in government offices and nonprofit organizations, including serving as the Director of Community Engagement for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Division of Family and Child Health from 2015 to 2019; as the Executive Director of the Hunts Point Alliance for Children in the Bronx from 2013 to 2015; and as Senior Advisor for Children and Family Services under New York City Mayor Bloomberg’s administration from 2008 to 2013. Her other experiences include federal and nonprofit policy experience including serving as a Policy Analyst for The Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, and as a Public Policy Fellow for the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans from 2004-2005. "Krystal is a dedicated and proven leader who will play a major role in improving the lives of our youth and families in Tulsa," Mayor Nichols said. "Krystal is trusted in the community and has a track record of success here in Tulsa and during her time in New York City and under Mayor Bloomberg. When it comes to improving lives and embedding an equitable lens to all functions of City government, Krystal will fill this needed role in our administration, and I couldn't be happier to have her join the team." During her time as Tulsa’s Chief Resilience Officer, Reyes was responsible for overseeing citywide strategies to advance resilience, equity, and welcoming, including the Resilient Tulsa Strategy and the New Tulsans Welcoming Plan. Local Tulsan Nick Sidorakis, renowned for his longtime management of Southern Hills Country Club, has been selected to operate the City of Tulsa’s Mohawk and Page Belcher golf courses. The selection follows a competitive bidding process for a new management agreement for City golf courses. The bidding process was opened earlier this year due to changes in the golf course market. Ultimately, the City received nine submissions, including submissions from eight national firms. “Nick and his partner Randy Heckenkemper have demonstrated a history of understanding and supporting City golf courses, and I can’t think of anyone with a more intimate knowledge of our courses than they have of them,” Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols said. “Nick has been one of the biggest supporters of the First Tee Program at Mohawk Golf Course that is helping our youth in Tulsa, and he has also demonstrated a willingness and ability to raise private money to support the golf courses in the past. I am confident that together, we will continue to create the best municipal golf courses in the region.” Following approval from the Standards Specifications & Awards Committee (SSA) this morning, the City will work with Sidorakis to get a finalized contract into place as soon as possible. Following those negotiations, Sidorakis will assume management sometime this spring. “I am very excited that we have such a strong local candidate to lead our City golf courses moving forward,” Tulsa Parks Director Anna America said. “Nick is one of the most respected people in the golf world in the region, and we’re honored he is interested in taking on our City courses.” In the spring, management will change over from Indigo Sports, a Troon Company (formerly Billy Casper Golf). The City of Tulsa thanks Indigo Sports for its commitment to City golf courses since 2008. Since 2020, investment in City golf courses has gained momentum and the golfing landscape has changed. After a surge in usage since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, APRA monies, Improve Our Tulsa sales tax dollars, and private funding have all been dedicated to City courses to improve conditions and playability. Most recently, the City completed renovations to Page Belcher Golf Course’s 40 plus bunkers after more than 20 years thanks to nearly $1 million from ARPA and a private match.
