For 7 years, Stopping as Success (SAS+) has been exploring what it takes to responsibly transition from international to local leadership. But what about transitions in a conflict setting? How do you approach them differently? SAS+ summer fellow Kate Caisley shares why and how responsible transitions in the peacebuilding sector should take a trauma-informed and trust-based approach. Leaders and champions ensure smooth transitions and post-transition processes and help shift the power within the system to better support and facilitate the success of local actors. 💡 Leaders are often local actors who work directly with an INGO to shape the transition, collaborate with staff members to motivate ownership, and in some cases engage the community to develop a local entity to carry forward post-transition. Champions are actors who use their passion, vision, and practical experience to advocate for and lead the work in which they participated. Are you a locally led development leader or champion?
