The arrival of 2025 brings with it increased estate and gift exclusion amounts. For an estate of any decedent dying during calendar year 2025, the Federal applicable exemption will increase from $13.61 million to $13.99 million. This change increases not only the exemption amount available at death, but also a taxpayer’s lifetime gift exemption amount and generation-skipping transfer (“GST”) tax exemption amount. Big win!
Congratulations to our client, Blue Violets, which won back the rights to open its micro cannabis dispensary in New Jersey. While the dispensary initially received approval for conditional use, the future of the company was unclear after the City of Hoboken implemented ordinances changes affecting the cannabis industry. Represented by the Cole Schotz team of Mike Klauder, Robert M. DiPisa, Joseph Barbiere, and Jonathan Goodelman, our client ultimately re-established its right to operate its business and in doing so essentially created new law in the state.
