Updates

  • Comet Robotics projects received 2 Undergraduate Research Scholar Awards from The University of Texas at Dallas Office of Undergraduate Education for their research proposals! The Solis Rover Project received a grant for their project, "Investigation of Biosignature Detection Methods for Martian Subsurface Analysis: Validation of a Life Detection Instrument for Science Missions" to develop specialized instruments that will search for potential signs of life in Martian soil. Their research will explore multiple detection methods including analyzing prebiotic molecules, metabolites, and organic compounds - directly supporting their Mars rover design for the University Rover Challenge. The COMET VEX U team received a grant for their project, "Design and Development of an Omni-Directional Holonomic Coaxial Robotic System Utilizing Additively Manufactured Thermoplastic Urethane Wheels" to seek out potential performance gains from the use of thermoplastic urethane wheels in the construction of swerve drive systems. This research will help the team achieve superior traction, acceleration, and maneuverability - pushing the boundaries of what competitive robots can do. Huge thanks to our faculty advisor, Yonas Tadesse for reviewing our proposals and continually supporting our progress as an organization. Stay tuned for updates on these projects, and join us in wishing these teams congratulations on their awards!

  • Comet Robotics at UT Dallas is proud to present our first public combat robotics competition: Comet Clash 2024! We welcome in-person spectators at this event - matches start at 9am on 11/23/2024 in the UTD ECSW building, and will be live streamed to our YouTube channel. With support from Repeat Robotics and ELEGOO, we will be hosting 56 combat robots in plant, ant, and beetle weight classes (with some pretty awesome prizes). Registration is now full, but interested competitors are welcome to join the waitlist on Robot Combat Events. The live stream, RCE page and other details are all available at the Comet Clash website: https://lnkd.in/gMYmxCfc. We look forward to watching some epic robot fights soon :)

"Dreaming To Be a Great Mechatronics Scientist and Create the Perfect Humanoid ": Sophomore at University of Texas at Dallas : Researcher in Soft Underwater Robotics and Humanoid Robotics

Being part of COMET VEXU has given me the invaluable opportunity to apply my engineering skills to real-world challenges, from designing efficient robotic mechanisms to troubleshooting complex problems under pressure. Beyond the technical aspects, this experience has also introduced me to a community of like-minded individuals who share my passion for robotics, fueling both my personal growth and our team’s collaborative spirit. So if you'd like to support COMET VEXU, our growing competitive robotics team, please consider donating through ImpactUTD, the University of Texas at Dallas's personal fundraising platform. Your contributions make it possible for us to travel nationwide, represent UTD on a global stage, and promote robotics education right here on campus. https://lnkd.in/g_papHjP

Student of biomedical engineering at UTD | SRP Science Team Lead at Comet Robotics | Co-Founder of The Retrograde

Last Friday, I had the opportunity to represent Comet Robotics at UT Dallas's Solis Rover Project at the Department of Bioengineering - UT Dallas's B.E. Ready Event, alongside Luke Fisanick. The B.E. Ready Event introduces UTD's biomedical engineering freshmen and transfer students to all the relevant clubs and organisations on campus. We at the Solis Rover Project took the chance to present our work so far and our goals for the future. The SRP is divided into 3 teams and the two of us are the leads of the Science Team, where aspects of biomedical engineering are the most relevant. Luke Fisanick and I briefly spoke about what we need from BMEN students, and what BMEN students have to gain from us. Then we had a great time interacting with eager freshmen! #UTDstudents #UTDBioengineering #CometRobotics
