Had a great time talking to Jason Calacanis about robotics, comma, and too much hype in tech. The hype/raise/bust cycle is way too common in tech, and hurts real engineering progress. We should celebrate companies that develop in the open and open-source, like Meta https://lnkd.in/g-ACYXJV
No hype, just works: How Comma reached 100M miles in autonomous driving

Is the future of robotics more hype or reality? Harald Schäfer from comma.ai offers a grounded perspective: "I have a robot vacuum. That’s pretty much the cutting-edge home robot right now, and while they improve every year, it's slow progress... We're not going to see humanoid robots in homes anytime soon. It’s just another hype cycle."

New #1 on the comparession challenge. Can you beat his score? https://lnkd.in/g9yE6QnQ
Many congratulations to Imagination engineer Szabolcs Cséfalvay who has topped the leaderboard of comma.ai's compression challenge! Szabolcs achieved this result using a novel quantisation-aware training (QAT) scheme that dynamically reduces a network's parameters while training, balancing maximum accuracy with minimum network size. Full details of the technique are available in his paper "Self-Compressing Neural Networks" https://hubs.ly/Q02K2RLz0 #AI #NeuralNetworks #EdgeAI

Glad you're enjoying the product! This is what 8 years of iteration and refinement gets you. We're hiring a designer, and this is one of many cool design problems to solve here. If you're interested in working on these design problems here, the hiring process is just: 1. Design challenge: https://lnkd.in/geBvNMg5 2. Two quick phone calls 3. On-site micro-internship Full details at https://comma.ai/jobs
Seems like George Hotz and the comma.ai team have delivered an impressive product which delights customers. It's fascinating to see a small team led by a hacker achieve a generally available public working solution comparable to those developed by teams with over 1,000 engineers and significantly more resources. The customer's only request was a 3D interface confidence display UI similar to Tesla’s AutoPilot user interface. #autonomousvehicles #autopilot #AV #SelfDrivingCars #SDV
