Dr. Topsakal is a distinguished leader in engineering, AI, and cybersecurity, currently serving as Senior Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives at Virginia Commonwealth University - College of Engineering and Director of the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) – Central Virginia Node. As a tenured professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering, his expertise spans wearable and implantable antennas, wireless medical telemetry, and AI applications in engineering and education. With over 200 published research papers, multiple prestigious awards—including the URSI Young Scientist Award and NATO Fellowship—and leadership roles in IEEE and URSI, Dr. Topsakal brings invaluable insight into AI-driven innovation. Had a great time this past weekend attending the Commonwealth Cyber Fusion 2025, hosted by Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) and Virginia Cyber Range. Taylor Pierotti and I got to meet students from 21 Virginia colleges and universities across the commonwealth and talk a little bit with them about some upcoming GPSU programming. These students were selected by their schools to compete in a Capture the Flag on Saturday, and some participated in Tech Duel team debatses - very cool to watch!

It was a pleasure to host our European partners in 6G-XCEL for a joint workshop with Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) to map out a joint US/Europe vision for #6g, including critical issues involving the integration of #AI and #cybersecurity.

I am looking for 3 PhD candidates with computer networks and wireless communication backgrounds to join the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Virginia Tech. The candidate MUST be excited about applied and experimental research and motivated to develop new systems and mechanisms based on hardware and software co-design. Develop, test, deploy, and showcase high-quality prototypes and proof-of-concept on advanced wireless communication networks (in particular, O-RAN) in a collaborative environment. Work closely with industry partners and designers to define requirements and solutions. My laboratory is in the Washington DC metro area, surrounded by a thriving tech community and vibrant city life, with an outdoor site at Virginia Tech's main campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. The successful candidate will work with key stakeholder groups to design and develop new sites and pages, as well as redesign existing pages to promote a more logical, user friendly, and professional web presence for CCI. Required Qualifications: • Demonstrated experience in web design and development, including proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery. • Demonstrated experience in online content creation and maintenance of websites. • Experience with content management systems, especially Adobe Experience Manager. • Proven ability with the Adobe Creative Suite and Google Analytics.
