A community program created to promote transportation choices that improve economic and community health.
About us
Commute Options Memphis is a community program created to promote transportation choices that improve economic and community health. This project is powered by Innovate Memphis and funded under a TN state grant contract. The Commute Options initiative aims to reduce the number of single-occupancy vehicle commute trips in Memphis while increasing the usage of transit, carpooling, bicycling, and walking to work. The drive-alone commute culture pervasive in Memphis negatively impacts our local economy, communities, and environment while contributing to sprawl. Through a historic emphasis on developing more convenient automotive transportation, Memphis positioned itself as less walkable and transit-friendly than our peer cities. Despite ongoing multi-modal transportation improvements, around 80% of Memphians drive alone to and from work each day. The Tennessee Department of Transportation awarded Innovate Memphis a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grant to create partnerships with local employers and learning institutions to promote transportation choices that improve economic and community health. While our strategies currently aim to improve transportation choices and culture at our partner worksites, more sustainable change, city-wide, is the ultimate goal for future implementations.

Raised crosswalks and bollards for the win! We love to see these roadway improvements to increase the safety of all road users, especially when it's near community hubs like schools and libraries!
The Vollintine Avenue Street Improvement Project is a step closer to completion! The Vollintine Avenue Street Improvement Project, born from the vision set by the Klondike Small Area Plan by Opticos, is on its way to completion! This transformative project enhances safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit users through a range of thoughtful interventions, including road narrowing, raised crosswalks and intersections, pedestrian signals, and landscaping. The implementation of this project was made possible through the collaboration with key partners, including Fisher Arnold, Ensafe, and Montgomery Martin, who played vital roles in turning the vision into reality. The result is a significant improvement to Vollintine Avenue, creating a safer and more accessible environment for the Klondike community. #Memphis3.0 #Klondike #Memphis #Infrastructure #AccelerateMemphis #UrbanDevelopment #CommunityEnhancement #StreetscapeImprovements #CyclistFriendly #PedestrianFriendly #MalasriEngineering

Have you heard? The next Memphis Safety Action Plan public hearing is next Monday at Benjamin Hooks Library from 5:30-7:00pm. Here's your chance to tell the city: - which streets prohibit your children from safely walking to school - which intersections feel dangerous when you're driving to Kroger - where a new protected bike would allow you to safely commute to work - which bus stops need a safe pedestrian crossing nearby - any other safe streets dreams you have for Memphis! Memphis, what safety plans do you want to advocate for?

Who says you can’t traffic calm an arterial? We (Toole Design Group) designed these raised crosswalks as part of the Madison Ave project for the City of Bainbridge Island. Madison Ave is a Minor Arterial, one of the main north-south routes through town. The raised crosswalks will prioritize pedestrians along and across Madison and improve safety for all while having minimal impact to buses and emergency services. The project also includes protected and intermediate-level bike lanes connecting schools, parks, churches, and homes to downtown Winslow. Shoutout to Jakob Ward, PE from our office for leading this design! Learn more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/dvpcE3QN

We're listening. Construction by MLGW prompted the temporary closure of A.W. Willis between Front and Second Streets, which has led to a few concerns from our riders. Therefore, we are taking these immediate actions to improve your service experience: 1️⃣ Indoor Waiting Assistance: Support staff will assist riders inside the Hudson Center and provide updates on bus arrivals. 2️⃣ Shelter from the Elements: Operators will allow more time for you to get to buses on Shadyac Street. 3️⃣ Improved Communication: We’re working closely with MLGW to minimize future disruptions. Thank you for your patience and understanding. #RideMATA #MemphisTransit #Go901 #Memphis #Choose901
