Conham Bathing

It is about people’s love of the river’: swimming group fighting for rights in the Avon (UK) Founded in 2021, Conham Bathing is a campaign group composed of swimmers and Bristol residents working to tackle the pollution crisis in the River Avon. They are working to apply for Designated Bathing Water Status at Conham River Park & Eastwood Farm Nature Reserve just outside the centre. Their experienced and passionate small female-led campaign group is working to secure a better future for rivers in Bristol, improve access to nature and campaign for the rights of rivers. Did you hear us on BBC R4 World at One? 🎙️ Our founder Rebecca Blease was featured alongside Surfers Against Sewage and Save Windermere in a report on Labour’s upcoming bill and manifesto promise to bolster the power of water regulators. Becca spoke of the community’s joy when swimming in the Avon and the lack of data we have on spill duration, volume, and impacts on public health: “It’s just such a gamble, because most of the time the water [at Conham] seems completely beautiful and lovely to swim in, but at other times we become ill from swimming in it” We’ve got lots more to say on this topic and will continue to engage with Bristol councillors and MPs, demanding they do more to fight pollution in the Avon ✊ Stay tuned for more from us very soon! #EndSewagePollution
