Just over three years ago, the Consulate General of France organised in Miami a wonderful event to celebrate Josephine Baker's induction into the Pantheon (a secular mausoleum to honour the greatest women and men of the French republic). This event highlighted the strong ties that existed between Miami and this exceptional woman. For the occasion, two beautiful portraits of Josephine Baker were produced to amaze the guests. On Black History Mounth this year, the Consulate General is pleased to donate these two large portraits to the Historic Hampton House. This is a logical decision since Josephine Baker, a tireless fighter for equality and justice, stayed and performed at this iconic Miami venue whose importance in the Afro-American culture, and more broadly in the history of civil rights, is now fully recognized.
